1. മകനേ, എന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ പ്രമാണിച്ചു എന്റെ കല്പനകളെ നിന്റെ ഉള്ളില് സംഗ്രഹിച്ചുകൊള്ക.

1. My son, obey my words. Store up my commands inside you.

2. നീ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ കല്പനകളെയും ഉപദേശത്തെയും നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്റെ കൃഷ്ണമണിയെപ്പോലെ കാത്തുകൊള്ക.

2. Obey my commands and you will live. Guard my teachings as you would your own eyes.

3. നിന്റെ വിരലിന്മേല് അവയെ കെട്ടുക; ഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ പലകയില് എഴുതുക.

3. Tie them on your fingers. Write them on the tablet of your heart.

4. ജ്ഞാനത്തോടുനീ എന്റെ സഹോദരി എന്നു പറക; വിവേകത്തിന്നു സഖി എന്നു പേര് വിളിക്ക.

4. Say to wisdom, 'You are my sister.' Call understanding a member of your family.

5. അവ നിന്നെ പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും ചക്കരവാക്കു പറയുന്ന അന്യസ്ത്രീയുടെ വശത്തുനിന്നും കാക്കും.

5. They will keep you from a woman who commits adultery. They will keep you from the smooth talk of a sinful wife.

6. ഞാന് എന്റെ വീട്ടിന്റെ കിളിവാതില്ക്കല് അഴിക്കിടയില്കൂടി നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

7. ഭോഷന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് ഒരുത്തനെ കണ്ടു; യൌവനക്കാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ബുദ്ധിഹീനനായോരു യുവാവിനെ കണ്ടറിഞ്ഞു.

7. Among those who were childish I saw a young man who had no sense.

8. അവന് വൈകുന്നേരം, സന്ധ്യാസമയത്തു, ഇരുട്ടും അന്ധകാരവുമുള്ള ഒരു രാത്രിയില്,

8. He went down the street near that sinful woman's corner. He walked toward her house.

9. അവളുടെ വീട്ടിന്റെ കോണിന്നരികെ വീഥിയില്കൂടി കടന്നു, അവളുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയെ നടന്നു ചെല്ലുന്നു.

9. The sun had gone down. Day was fading. The darkness of night was falling.

10. പെട്ടെന്നു ഇതാ, വേശ്യാവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചും ഹൃദയത്തില് ഉപായം പൂണ്ടും ഉള്ളോരു സ്ത്രീ അവനെ എതിരേറ്റുവരുന്നു.

10. A woman came out to meet him. She was dressed like a prostitute and had a clever plan.

11. അവള് മോഹപരവശയും തന്നിഷ്ടക്കാരത്തിയും ആകുന്നു; അവളുടെ കാല് വീട്ടില് അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കയില്ല.

11. She was a loud and pushy woman. She never stayed at home.

15. അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് നിന്നെ കാണ്മാന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു. നിന്നെ എതിരേല്പാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു നിന്നെ കണ്ടെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

15. So I came out to meet you. I looked for you. And I have found you!

16. ഞാന് എന്റെ കട്ടിലിന്മേല് പരവതാനികളും മിസ്രയീമ്യനൂല്കൊണ്ടുള്ള വരിയന് പടങ്ങളും വിരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

16. I have covered my bed with colored sheets from Egypt.

17. മൂറും അകിലും ലവംഗവുംകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് എന്റെ മെത്ത സുഗന്ധമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. I've perfumed my bed with spices. I used myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.

18. വരിക; വെളുക്കുംവരെ നമുക്കു പ്രേമത്തില് രമിക്കാം; കാമവിലാസങ്ങളാല് നമുക്കു സുഖിക്കാം.

18. Come, let's drink our fill of love until morning. Let's enjoy ourselves by having sex!

19. പുരുഷന് വീട്ടില് ഇല്ല; ദൂരയാത്ര പോയിരിക്കുന്നു;

19. My husband isn't home. He's gone on a long journey.

20. പണമടിശ്ശീല കൂടെ കൊണ്ടുപോയിട്ടുണ്ടു; പൌര്ണ്ണമാസിക്കേ വീട്ടില് വന്നെത്തുകയുള്ളു.

20. He took his bag full of money. He won't be home for several days.'

21. ഇങ്ങനെ ഏറിയോരു ഇമ്പവാക്കുകളാല് അവള് അവനെ വശീകരിച്ചു അധരമാധുര്യംകൊണ്ടു അവനെ നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിക്കുന്നു.

21. She led him down the wrong path with her clever words. She charmed him with her smooth talk.

22. അറുക്കുന്നേടത്തേക്കു കാളയും ചങ്ങലയിലേക്കു ഭോഷനും പോകുന്നതുപോലെയും,

22. All at once he followed her. He was like an ox going to be killed. He was like a deer stepping into a trap

23. പക്ഷി ജീവഹാനിക്കുള്ളതെന്നറിയാതെ കണിയിലേക്കു ബദ്ധപ്പെടുന്നതുപോലെയും കരളില് അസ്ത്രം തറെക്കുവോളം അവന് അവളുടെ പിന്നാലെ ചെല്ലുന്നു.

23. until an arrow struck its liver. He was like a bird rushing into a trap. Little did he know it would cost him his life!

24. ആകയാല് മക്കളേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്പ്പിന് ; എന്റെ വായിലെ വചനങ്ങളെ ശ്രദ്ധിപ്പിന് .

24. My sons, listen to me. Pay attention to what I say.

25. നിന്റെ മനസ്സു അവളുടെ വഴിയിലേക്കു ചായരുതു; അവളുടെ പാതകളിലേക്കു നീ തെറ്റിച്ചെല്ലുകയുമരുതു.

25. Don't let your hearts turn to her ways. Don't step onto her paths.

26. അവള് വീഴിച്ച ഹതന്മാര് അനേകര്; അവള് കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞവര് ആകെ വലിയോരു കൂട്ടം ആകുന്നു.

26. She has brought down a lot of men. She has killed a huge crowd.

27. അവളുടെ വീടു പാതാളത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയാകുന്നു; അതു മരണത്തിന്റെ അറകളിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുന്നു.

27. Her house is a road to the grave. It leads down to the place of the dead.
