1. എന്നാല് ഏഴാം മാസത്തില് രാജവംശക്കാരനും രാജാവിന്റെ മഹത്തുക്കളില് ഒരുവനുമായി എലീശാമയുടെ മകനായ നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകന് യിശ്മായേല് പത്തു ആളുമായി മിസ്പയില് അഹീക്കാമിന്റെ മകനായ ഗെദല്യാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അവിടെ മിസ്പയില്വെച്ചു അവര് ഒന്നിച്ചു ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു.

1. The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD after Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him bound in chains among all who were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, who were carried away captive unto Babylon.

2. നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകന് യിശ്മായേലും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പത്തു ആളും എഴുന്നേറ്റു, ബാബേല്രാജാവു ദേശാധിപതിയാക്കിയിരുന്ന ശാഫാന്റെ മകനായ അഹീക്കാമിന്റെ മകനായ ഗെദല്യാവെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു.

2. And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said unto him, 'The LORD thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.

3. മിസ്പയില് ഗെദല്യാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന എല്ലാ യെഹൂദന്മാരെയും അവിടെ കണ്ട കല്ദയപടയാളികളെയും യിശ്മായേല് കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

3. Now the LORD hath brought it, and done according as He hath said: because ye have sinned against the LORD and have not obeyed His voice, therefore this thing has come upon you.

4. ഗെദല്യാവെ കൊന്നിട്ടു രണ്ടാം ദിവസം, അതു ആരും അറിയാതിരിക്കുമ്പോള് തന്നേ,

4. And now behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will look well after thee; but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear. Behold, all the land is before thee. Wherever it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.'

5. ശെഖേമില്നിന്നും ശീലോവില്നിന്നും ശമര്യ്യയില്നിന്നും എണ്പതു പുരുഷന്മാര് താടി ചിരെച്ചും വസ്ത്രം കീറിയും തങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ മുറിവേല്പിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു വഴിപാടും കുന്തുരുക്കവും എടുത്തു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു പോകുംവഴി അവിടെ എത്തി.

5. Now while he had not yet gone back, he said, 'Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go.' So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward and let him go.

6. നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകന് യിശ്മായേല് മിസ്പയില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു കരഞ്ഞുംകൊണ്ടു അവരെ എതിരേറ്റു ചെന്നു; അവരെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് അവന് അവരോടുഅഹീക്കാമിന്റെ മകനായ ഗെദല്യാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt with him among the people who were left in the land.

7. അവര് പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ നടുവില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യിശ്മായേലും കൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ആളുകളും അവരെ കൊന്നു ഒരു കുഴിയില് ഇട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

7. Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men and women and children, and the poor of the land of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon,

8. എന്നാല് അവരില് പത്തുപേര് യിശ്മായേലിനോടുഞങ്ങളെ കൊല്ലരുതേ; വയലില് കോതമ്പു, യവം, എണ്ണ, തേന് എന്നീവക സംഭാരങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങള് ഒളിച്ചുവെച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് സമ്മതിച്ചു അവരെ അവരുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടുകൂടെ കൊല്ലാതെയിരുന്നു.

8. then they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah -- even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

9. യിശ്മായേല് ഗെദല്യാവെയും കൂട്ടരെയും കൊന്നു ശവങ്ങളെ എല്ലാം ഇട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ കുഴി ആസാരാജാവു യിസ്രായേല് രാജാവായ ബയശാനിമിത്തം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയതായിരുന്നു; നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യിശ്മായേല് അതിനെ നിഹതന്മാരെക്കൊണ്ടു നിറെച്ചു.

9. And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, swore unto them and to their men, saying, 'Fear not to serve the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

10. പിന്നെ യിശ്മായേല് മിസ്പയില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ജനശിഷ്ടത്തെ ഒക്കെയും രാജകുമാരികളെയും അകമ്പടിനായകനായ നെബൂസര്-അദാന് അഹീക്കാമിന്റെ മകനായ ഗെദല്യാവെ ഏല്പിച്ചവരായി മിസ്പയില് ശേഷിച്ചിരുന്ന സകലജനത്തെയും ബദ്ധരാക്കി കൊണ്ടുപോയി; നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകന് യിശ്മായേല് അവരെ ബദ്ധരാക്കി അമ്മോന്യരുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടു പോകുവാന് യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

10. As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, who will come unto us; but ye, gather ye wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.'

11. നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകന് യിശ്മായേല് ചെയ്ത ദോഷം ഒക്കെയും കാരേഹിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹാനാനും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പടത്തലവന്മാരും കേട്ടപ്പോള്

11. Likewise when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the Ammonites and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,

12. അവര് സകലപുരുഷന്മാരെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യിശ്മായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്വാന് ചെന്നു, ഗിബെയോനിലെ പെരിങ്കളങ്ങരെ വെച്ചു അവനെ കണ്ടെത്തി.

12. even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits in abundance.

13. യിശ്മായേലിനോടു കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ജനമൊക്കെയും കാരേഹിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹാനാനെയും കൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്ന എല്ലാ പടത്തലവന്മാരെയും കണ്ടപ്പോള് സന്തോഷിച്ചു.

13. Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields came to Gedaliah at Mizpah

14. യിശ്മായേല് മിസ്പയില്നിന്നു ബദ്ധരാക്കി കൊണ്ടുപോന്നിരുന്ന സര്വ്വജനവും തിരിഞ്ഞു, കാരേഹിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹാനാന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചേര്ന്നു.

14. and said unto him, 'Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee?' But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

15. നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകന് യിശ്മായേലോ എട്ടു ആളുമായി യോഹാനാനെ വിട്ടു തെറ്റി അമ്മോന്യരുടെ അടുക്കല് പൊയ്ക്കളഞ്ഞു.

15. Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, 'Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Why should he slay thee, that all the Jews who are gathered unto thee should be scattered and the remnant in Judah perish?'

16. നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകന് യിശ്മായേല് അഹീക്കാമിന്റെ മകനായ ഗെദല്യാവെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞശേഷം, അവന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു കാരേഹിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹാനാനും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന എല്ലാപടത്തലവന്മാരും വിടുവിച്ച ജനശിഷ്ടത്തെ ഒക്കെയും, ഗിബെയോനില്നിന്നു തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന പടയാളികളെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയും ഷണ്ഡന്മാരെയും തന്നേ, അവര് മിസ്പയില്നിന്നു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു,

16. But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, 'Thou shalt not do this thing, for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.'
