1. യേശു യോഹന്നാനെക്കാള് അധികം ശിഷ്യന്മാരെ ചേര്ത്തു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പരീശന്മാര് കേട്ടു എന്നു കര്ത്താവു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് —

1. Jesus knew that the Pharisees had heard that he was winning and baptizing more followers than John was.

2. ശിഷ്യന്മാര് അല്ലാതെ, യേശു തന്നേ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിച്ചില്ലതാനും —

2. But Jesus' disciples were really the ones doing the baptizing, and not Jesus himself.

3. അവന് യെഹൂദ്യദേശം വിട്ടു പിന്നെയും ഗലീലെക്കു യാത്രയായി. അവന് ശമര്യയില്കൂടി കടന്നുപോകേണ്ടിവന്നു.

3. Jesus left Judea and started for Galilee again.

4. അങ്ങനെ അവന് സുഖാര് എന്നൊരു ശമര്യപട്ടണത്തില് യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ പുത്രനായയോസേഫിന്നു കൊടുത്ത നിലത്തിന്നരികെ എത്തി. അവിടെ യാക്കോബിന്റെ ഉറവുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. യേശു വഴി നടന്നു ക്ഷീണിച്ചിട്ടു ഉറവിന്നരികെ ഇരുന്നു; അപ്പോള് ഏകദേശം ആറാം മണിനേരം ആയിരുന്നു.

5. ഒരു ശമര്യസ്ത്രീ വെള്ളം കോരുവാന് വന്നു; യേശു അവളോടുഎനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാന് തരുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

5. and on his way he came to the town of Sychar. It was near the field that Jacob had long ago given to his son Joseph.

6. അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാര് ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങളെ കൊള്ളുവാന് പട്ടണത്തില് പോയിരുന്നു.

6. The well that Jacob had dug was still there, and Jesus sat down beside it because he was tired from traveling. It was noon, and after Jesus' disciples had gone into town to buy some food, a Samaritan woman came to draw water from the well. Jesus asked her, 'Would you please give me a drink of water?'

7. ശമര്യസ്ത്രീ അവനോടുനീ യെഹൂദന് ആയിരിക്കെ ശമര്യക്കാരത്തിയായ എന്നോടു കുടിപ്പാന് ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യെഹൂദന്മാര്ക്കും ശമര്യര്ക്കും തമ്മില് സമ്പര്ക്കമില്ല —

8. അതിന്നു യേശുനീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാനവും നിന്നോടു കുടിപ്പാന് ചോദിക്കുന്നവന് ആരെന്നും അറിഞ്ഞു എങ്കില് നീ അവനോടു ചോദിക്കയും അവന് ജീവനുള്ള വെള്ളം നിനക്കു തരികയും ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

9. You are a Jew,' she replied, 'and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink of water when Jews and Samaritans won't have anything to do with each other?'

10. Jesus answered, 'You don't know what God wants to give you, and you don't know who is asking you for a drink. If you did, you would ask me for the water that gives life.'

11. Sir,' the woman said, 'you don't even have a bucket, and the well is deep. Where are you going to get this life-giving water?

12. ഞാന് കൊടുക്കുന്ന വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുന്നവന്നോ ഒരുനാളും ദാഹിക്കയില്ല; ഞാന് കൊടുക്കുന്ന വെള്ളം അവനില് നിത്യജീവങ്കലേക്കു പൊങ്ങിവരുന്ന നീരുറവായിത്തീരും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Our ancestor Jacob dug this well for us, and his family and animals got water from it. Are you greater than Jacob?'

13. സ്ത്രീ അവനാടുയജമാനനേ, എനിക്കു ദാഹിക്കാതെയും ഞാന് കോരുവാന് ഇവിടത്തോളം വരാതെയുമിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ആ വെള്ളം എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. Jesus answered, 'Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again.

14. യേശു അവളോടുപോയി ഭര്ത്താവിനെ വിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. But no one who drinks the water I give will ever be thirsty again. The water I give is like a flowing fountain that gives eternal life.'

15. എനിക്കു ഭര്ത്താവു ഇല്ല എന്നുസ്ത്രീ അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഎനിക്കു ഭര്ത്താവു ഇല്ല എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞതു ശരി.

15. The woman replied, 'Sir, please give me a drink of that water! Then I won't get thirsty and have to come to this well again.'

16. അഞ്ചു ഭര്ത്താക്കന്മാര് നിനക്കു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് ഉള്ളവനോ ഭര്ത്താവല്ല; നീ പറഞ്ഞതു സത്യം തന്നേ എന്നു യേശു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. Jesus told her, 'Go and bring your husband.'

17. സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുയജമാനനേ, നീ പ്രവാചകന് എന്നു ഞാന് കാണുന്നു.

17. The woman answered, 'I don't have a husband.' 'That's right,' Jesus replied, 'you're telling the truth. You don't have a husband. You have already been married five times, and the man you are now living with isn't your husband.'

18. ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാര് ഈ മലയില് നമസ്കരിച്ചുവന്നു; നമസ്കരിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന സ്ഥലം യെരൂശലേമില് ആകുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. യേശു അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുസ്ത്രീയേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിക്ക; നിങ്ങള് പിതാവിനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നതു ഈ മലയിലും അല്ല യെരൂശലേമിലും അല്ല എന്നുള്ള നാഴിക വരുന്നു.

19. The woman said, 'Sir, I can see that you are a prophet.

20. നിങ്ങള് അറിയാത്തതിനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നു. ഞങ്ങളോ അറിയുന്നതിനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നു; രക്ഷ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് നിന്നല്ലോ വരുന്നതു.

20. My ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say Jerusalem is the only place to worship.'

21. സത്യനമസ്കാരികള് പിതാവിനെ ആത്മാവിലും സത്യത്തിലും നമസ്കരിക്കുന്ന നാഴിക വരുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് വന്നുമിരിക്കുന്നു. തന്നേ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നവര് ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ളവര് ആയിരിക്കേണം എന്നു പിതാവു ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

21. Jesus said to her: Believe me, the time is coming when you won't worship the Father either on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

22. ദൈവം ആത്മാവു ആകുന്നു; അവനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നവര് ആത്മാവിലും സത്യത്തിലും നമസ്കരിക്കേണം.

22. You Samaritans don't really know the one you worship. But we Jews do know the God we worship, and by using us, God will save the world.

23. സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുമശീഹ — എന്നുവെച്ചാല് ക്രിസ്തു — വരുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; അവന് വരുമ്പോള് സകലവും അറിയിച്ചുതരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. But a time is coming, and it is already here! Even now the true worshipers are being led by the Spirit to worship the Father according to the truth. These are the ones the Father is seeking to worship him.

24. യേശു അവളോടുനിന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഞാന് തന്നേ മശീഹ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. God is Spirit, and those who worship God must be led by the Spirit to worship him according to the truth.

25. ഇതിന്നിടയില് അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാര് വന്നു അവന് സ്ത്രീയോടു സംസാരിക്കയാല് ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു എങ്കിലുംനീ എന്തു ചോദിക്കുന്നു? അവളോടു എന്തു സംസാരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ആരും ചോദിച്ചില്ല.

25. The woman said, 'I know that the Messiah will come. He is the one we call Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.'

26. അനന്തരം സ്ത്രീ പാത്രം വെച്ചിട്ടു പട്ടണത്തില് ചെന്നു ജനങ്ങളോടു

26. I am that one,' Jesus told her, 'and I am speaking to you now.'

27. ഞാന് ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ വന്നുകാണ്മിന് ; അവന് പക്ഷേ ക്രിസ്തു ആയിരിക്കുമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. The disciples returned about this time and were surprised to find Jesus talking with a woman. But none of them asked him what he wanted or why he was talking with her.

28. അവര് പട്ടണത്തില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

28. The woman left her water jar and ran back into town. She said to the people,

29. അതിന്നിടയില് ശിഷ്യന്മാര് അവനോടുറബ്ബീ, ഭക്ഷിച്ചാലും എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

29. 'Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done! Could he be the Messiah?'

30. അതിന്നു അവന് നിങ്ങള് അറിയാത്ത ആഹാരം ഭക്ഷിപ്പാന് എനിക്കു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

30. Everyone in town went out to see Jesus.

31. ആകയാല് വല്ലവനും അവന്നു ഭക്ഷിപ്പാന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നുവോ എന്നു ശിഷ്യന്മാര് തമ്മില് പറഞ്ഞു.

31. While this was happening, Jesus' disciples were saying to him, 'Teacher, please eat something.'

32. യേശു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഎന്നെ അയച്ചവന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം ചെയ്തു അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി തികെക്കുന്നതു തന്നെ എന്റെ ആഹാരം.

32. But Jesus told them, 'I have food that you don't know anything about.'

33. ഇനി നാലു മാസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു കൊയ്ത്തു വരുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് പറയുന്നില്ലയോ? നിങ്ങള് തല പൊക്കി നോക്കിയാല് നിലങ്ങള് ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ കൊയ്ത്തിന്നു വെളുത്തിരിക്കുന്നതു കാണും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

33. His disciples started asking each other, 'Has someone brought him something to eat?'

34. വിതെക്കുന്നവനും കൊയ്യുന്നവനം ഒരുമിച്ചു സന്തോഷിപ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം കൊയ്യുന്നവന് കൂലി വാങ്ങി നിത്യജീവങ്കലേക്കു വിളവു കൂട്ടിവെക്കുന്നു.

34. Jesus said: My food is to do what God wants! He is the one who sent me, and I must finish the work that he gave me to do.

35. വിതെക്കുന്നതു ഒരുത്തന് , കൊയ്യുന്നതു മറ്റൊരുത്തന് എന്നുള്ള പഴഞ്ചൊല് ഇതില് ഒത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

35. You may say that there are still four months until harvest time. But I tell you to look, and you will see that the fields are ripe and ready to harvest.

36. നിങ്ങള് അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്തതു കൊയ്വാന് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; മറ്റുള്ളവര് അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചു; അവരുടെ അദ്ധ്വാനഫലത്തിലേക്കു നിങ്ങള് പ്രവേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

36. Even now the harvest workers are receiving their reward by gathering a harvest that brings eternal life. Then everyone who planted the seed and everyone who harvests the crop will celebrate together.

37. ഞാന് ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു എന്നു സ്ത്രീ സാക്ഷ്യം പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു നിമിത്തം ആ പട്ടണത്തിലെ പല ശമര്യരും അവനില് വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

37. So the saying proves true, 'Some plant the seed, and others harvest the crop.'

38. അങ്ങനെ ശമര്യര് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു തങ്ങളോടു കൂടെ പാര്ക്കേണം എന്നു അവനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു; അവന് രണ്ടുനാള് അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു.

38. I am sending you to harvest crops in fields where others have done all the hard work.

39. ഏറ്റവും അധികംപേര് അവന്റെ വചനം കേട്ടു വിശ്വസിച്ചു

39. A lot of Samaritans in that town put their faith in Jesus because the woman had said, 'This man told me everything I have ever done.'

40. ഇനി നിന്റെ വാക്കുകൊണ്ടല്ല ഞങ്ങള് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നതു; ഞങ്ങള് തന്നേ കേള്ക്കയും അവന് സാക്ഷാല് ലോകരക്ഷിതാവു എന്നു അറികയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്ത്രീയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

40. They came and asked him to stay in their town, and he stayed on for two days.

41. രണ്ടു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവന് അവിടം വിട്ടു ഗലീലെക്കു പോയി.

41. Many more Samaritans put their faith in Jesus because of what they heard him say.

42. പ്രവാചകന്നു തന്റെ പിതൃദേശത്തു ബഹുമാനം ഇല്ല എന്നു യേശു തന്നേ സാക്ഷ്യം പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

42. They told the woman, 'We no longer have faith in Jesus just because of what you told us. We have heard him ourselves, and we are certain that he is the Savior of the world!'

43. അവന് ഗലീലയില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് ഗലീലക്കാര് തങ്ങളും പെരുന്നാളിന്നു പോയി അവന് യെരൂശലേമില്വെച്ചു പെരുനാളില് ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അവനെ അംഗീകരിച്ചു.

43. Jesus had said, 'Prophets are honored everywhere, except in their own country.' Then two days later he left

44. അവന് പിന്നെയും താന് വെള്ളം വീഞ്ഞാക്കിയ ഗലീലയിലെ കാനാവില് വന്നു. അന്നു മകന് രോഗിയായിരുന്നോരു രാജഭൃത്യന് കഫര്ന്നഹൂമില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

45. യേശു യെഹൂദ്യദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഗലീലയില് വന്നു എന്നു അവന് കേട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു, തന്റെ മകന് മരിപ്പാറായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവന് വന്നു അവനെ സൌഖ്യമാക്കേണം എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

45. and went to Galilee. The people there welcomed him, because they had gone to the festival in Jerusalem and had seen everything he had done.

46. യേശു അവനോടുനിങ്ങള് അടയാളങ്ങളും അത്ഭുതങ്ങളും കണ്ടിട്ടല്ലാതെ വിശ്വസിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

46. While Jesus was in Galilee, he returned to the village of Cana, where he had turned the water into wine. There was an official in Capernaum whose son was sick.

47. രാജഭൃത്യന് അവനോടുകര്ത്താവേ, പൈതല് മരിക്കുംമുമ്പേ വരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

47. And when the man heard that Jesus had come from Judea, he went and begged him to keep his son from dying.

48. യേശു അവനോടുപൊയ്ക്കൊള്ക; നിന്റെ മകന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യേശു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിച്ചു ആ മനുഷ്യന് പോയി.

48. Jesus told the official, 'You won't have faith unless you see miracles and wonders!'

49. അവന് പോകയില് അവന്റെ ദാസന്മാര് അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു മകന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

49. The man replied, 'Lord, please come before my son dies!'

50. അവന്നു ഭേദം വന്ന നാഴിക അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവര് അവനോടുഇന്നലെ ഏഴുമണിക്കു പനി വിട്ടുമാറി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

50. Jesus then said, 'Your son will live. Go on home to him.' The man believed Jesus and started back home.

51. ആകയാല് നിന്റെ മകന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യേശു പറഞ്ഞ നാഴികയില് തന്നേ എന്നു അപ്പന് ഗ്രഹിച്ചു താനും കുടുംബം ഒക്കെയും വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

51. Some of the official's servants met him along the road and told him, 'Your son is better!'

52. യേശു യെഹൂദ്യയില് നിന്നു ഗലീലയില് വന്നപ്പോള് ഇതു രണ്ടാമത്തെ അടയാളമായിട്ടു ചെയ്തു.

52. He asked them when the boy got better, and they answered, 'The fever left him yesterday at one o'clock.'
