1. യേശു യോഹന്നാനെക്കാള് അധികം ശിഷ്യന്മാരെ ചേര്ത്തു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പരീശന്മാര് കേട്ടു എന്നു കര്ത്താവു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് —

1. As soon as the Lord had knowledge, how that it was come to the ears of the pharisees,(how the Pharisees had heard) that Jesus made and baptised more disciples than John

2. ശിഷ്യന്മാര് അല്ലാതെ, യേശു തന്നേ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിച്ചില്ലതാനും —

2. (though that Jesus himself baptised not: but his disciples)

3. അവന് യെഹൂദ്യദേശം വിട്ടു പിന്നെയും ഗലീലെക്കു യാത്രയായി. അവന് ശമര്യയില്കൂടി കടന്നുപോകേണ്ടിവന്നു.

3. he left Jewry, and departed again in to Galilee.

4. അങ്ങനെ അവന് സുഖാര് എന്നൊരു ശമര്യപട്ടണത്തില് യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ പുത്രനായയോസേഫിന്നു കൊടുത്ത നിലത്തിന്നരികെ എത്തി. അവിടെ യാക്കോബിന്റെ ഉറവുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. യേശു വഴി നടന്നു ക്ഷീണിച്ചിട്ടു ഉറവിന്നരികെ ഇരുന്നു; അപ്പോള് ഏകദേശം ആറാം മണിനേരം ആയിരുന്നു.

4. And it was so that he must needs go thorow Samaria.

5. ഒരു ശമര്യസ്ത്രീ വെള്ളം കോരുവാന് വന്നു; യേശു അവളോടുഎനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാന് തരുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

5. Then came he to a city of Samaria called Sichar besides the possession(nigh unto the piece of land) that Jacob gave to his son Joseph,

6. അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാര് ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങളെ കൊള്ളുവാന് പട്ടണത്തില് പോയിരുന്നു.

6. and there was Jacob's well. Jesus then wearied in his journey, sat thus on the well. (And) It was about the sixth hour:

7. ശമര്യസ്ത്രീ അവനോടുനീ യെഹൂദന് ആയിരിക്കെ ശമര്യക്കാരത്തിയായ എന്നോടു കുടിപ്പാന് ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യെഹൂദന്മാര്ക്കും ശമര്യര്ക്കും തമ്മില് സമ്പര്ക്കമില്ല —

7. (And) There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. (And) Jesus said unto her: Give me drink.

8. അതിന്നു യേശുനീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാനവും നിന്നോടു കുടിപ്പാന് ചോദിക്കുന്നവന് ആരെന്നും അറിഞ്ഞു എങ്കില് നീ അവനോടു ചോദിക്കയും അവന് ജീവനുള്ള വെള്ളം നിനക്കു തരികയും ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

8. (for his disciples were gone away unto the town to buy meat.)

9. സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുയജമാനനേ, നിനക്കു കോരുവാന് പാത്രം ഇല്ലല്ലോ; കിണറു ആഴമുള്ളതാകുന്നു; പിന്നെ ജീവനുള്ള വെള്ളം നിനക്കു എവിടെ നിന്നു?

9. (Then) The woman of Samaria said unto him: how is it, that thou being a jew(iewe) askest drink of me, which am a Samaritan? (for the jews meddle not with the Samaritans.)

10. നമ്മുടെ പിതാവായ യാക്കോബിനെക്കാള് നീ വലിയവനോ? അവന് ആകുന്നു ഈ കിണറു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തന്നതു; അവനും അവന്റെ മക്കളും മൃഗങ്ങളും ഇതിലെ വെള്ളം കുടിച്ചു പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Jesus answered and said unto her: if thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is, that sayeth to thee give me drink: thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee water of life.

11. യേശു അവളോടുഈ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുന്നവന്നു എല്ലാം പിന്നെയും ദാഹിക്കും.

11. The woman said unto him: Sir thou hast no thing to draw it withal, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that water of life?

12. ഞാന് കൊടുക്കുന്ന വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുന്നവന്നോ ഒരുനാളും ദാഹിക്കയില്ല; ഞാന് കൊടുക്കുന്ന വെള്ളം അവനില് നിത്യജീവങ്കലേക്കു പൊങ്ങിവരുന്ന നീരുറവായിത്തീരും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and he himself drank thereof and his children and his cattle?

13. സ്ത്രീ അവനാടുയജമാനനേ, എനിക്കു ദാഹിക്കാതെയും ഞാന് കോരുവാന് ഇവിടത്തോളം വരാതെയുമിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ആ വെള്ളം എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. Jesus answered and said unto her: whosoever drinketh of this water, shall thirst again.

14. യേശു അവളോടുപോയി ഭര്ത്താവിനെ വിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. But whosoever shall drink of the water that I shall give him, shall never be more a thirst: But the water that I shall give him, shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15. എനിക്കു ഭര്ത്താവു ഇല്ല എന്നുസ്ത്രീ അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഎനിക്കു ഭര്ത്താവു ഇല്ല എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞതു ശരി.

15. The woman said unto him: Sir give me of that water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16. അഞ്ചു ഭര്ത്താക്കന്മാര് നിനക്കു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് ഉള്ളവനോ ഭര്ത്താവല്ല; നീ പറഞ്ഞതു സത്യം തന്നേ എന്നു യേശു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. Jesus said unto her: Go and call thy husband, and come hither.

17. സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുയജമാനനേ, നീ പ്രവാചകന് എന്നു ഞാന് കാണുന്നു.

17. The woman answered and said to him: I have no husband. Jesus said to her: Thou hast well said, I have no husband.

18. ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാര് ഈ മലയില് നമസ്കരിച്ചുവന്നു; നമസ്കരിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന സ്ഥലം യെരൂശലേമില് ആകുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. For thou hast had five husbands, and he whom thou now hast, is not thy husband. That saidst thou truly.(there saydest thou right)

19. യേശു അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുസ്ത്രീയേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിക്ക; നിങ്ങള് പിതാവിനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നതു ഈ മലയിലും അല്ല യെരൂശലേമിലും അല്ല എന്നുള്ള നാഴിക വരുന്നു.

19. The woman said unto him: Sir I perceive(see) that thou art a prophet.

20. നിങ്ങള് അറിയാത്തതിനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നു. ഞങ്ങളോ അറിയുന്നതിനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നു; രക്ഷ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് നിന്നല്ലോ വരുന്നതു.

20. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain: and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to pray.(worship.)

21. സത്യനമസ്കാരികള് പിതാവിനെ ആത്മാവിലും സത്യത്തിലും നമസ്കരിക്കുന്ന നാഴിക വരുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് വന്നുമിരിക്കുന്നു. തന്നേ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നവര് ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ളവര് ആയിരിക്കേണം എന്നു പിതാവു ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

21. Jesus said unto her: woman trust(believe) me; The hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the father.

22. ദൈവം ആത്മാവു ആകുന്നു; അവനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നവര് ആത്മാവിലും സത്യത്തിലും നമസ്കരിക്കേണം.
യെശയ്യാ 2:3

22. Ye worship ye wot nere(not) what: we know what we worship. For salvation cometh of the jews.

23. സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുമശീഹ — എന്നുവെച്ചാല് ക്രിസ്തു — വരുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; അവന് വരുമ്പോള് സകലവും അറിയിച്ചുതരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. But the hour cometh, and now is, (allready) when the true worshippers shall worship the father in spirit, and in verity.(trouth) For verily such the father requireth to worship him.

24. യേശു അവളോടുനിന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഞാന് തന്നേ മശീഹ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. God is a spirit, and they that worship him, must honour(worship) him, in spirit and verity.(trouth, or real fidelity of truth)

25. ഇതിന്നിടയില് അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാര് വന്നു അവന് സ്ത്രീയോടു സംസാരിക്കയാല് ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു എങ്കിലുംനീ എന്തു ചോദിക്കുന്നു? അവളോടു എന്തു സംസാരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ആരും ചോദിച്ചില്ല.

25. The woman said unto him: I wot well Messias shall come, which is called Christ. When he is once come, he will tell us all things.

26. അനന്തരം സ്ത്രീ പാത്രം വെച്ചിട്ടു പട്ടണത്തില് ചെന്നു ജനങ്ങളോടു

26. Jesus said unto her: I that speak unto thee, am he.

27. ഞാന് ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ വന്നുകാണ്മിന് ; അവന് പക്ഷേ ക്രിസ്തു ആയിരിക്കുമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. And even at that point,(in the mean season) came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman. Yet no man said unto him: what meanest(askest) thou, or why talkest thou with her?

28. അവര് പട്ടണത്തില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

28. The woman (then) left her water pot behind her, and went her way into the city, and said to the men(people) there:

29. അതിന്നിടയില് ശിഷ്യന്മാര് അവനോടുറബ്ബീ, ഭക്ഷിച്ചാലും എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

29. Come see a man which told me all things that ever I did. Is not he Christ?

30. അതിന്നു അവന് നിങ്ങള് അറിയാത്ത ആഹാരം ഭക്ഷിപ്പാന് എനിക്കു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

30. Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

31. ആകയാല് വല്ലവനും അവന്നു ഭക്ഷിപ്പാന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നുവോ എന്നു ശിഷ്യന്മാര് തമ്മില് പറഞ്ഞു.

31. (And) In the meanwhile his disciples prayed him saying: Master eat.

32. യേശു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഎന്നെ അയച്ചവന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം ചെയ്തു അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി തികെക്കുന്നതു തന്നെ എന്റെ ആഹാരം.

32. He said unto them: I have meat to eat, that ye know not of.

33. ഇനി നാലു മാസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു കൊയ്ത്തു വരുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് പറയുന്നില്ലയോ? നിങ്ങള് തല പൊക്കി നോക്കിയാല് നിലങ്ങള് ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ കൊയ്ത്തിന്നു വെളുത്തിരിക്കുന്നതു കാണും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

33. Then said the disciples between(among) themselves: hath any man brought him meat?

34. വിതെക്കുന്നവനും കൊയ്യുന്നവനം ഒരുമിച്ചു സന്തോഷിപ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം കൊയ്യുന്നവന് കൂലി വാങ്ങി നിത്യജീവങ്കലേക്കു വിളവു കൂട്ടിവെക്കുന്നു.

34. Jesus said unto them: My meat is to fulfill (do) the will of him that sent me. And to finish his work.

35. വിതെക്കുന്നതു ഒരുത്തന് , കൊയ്യുന്നതു മറ്റൊരുത്തന് എന്നുള്ള പഴഞ്ചൊല് ഇതില് ഒത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

35. Say not ye: There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the regions: For they are white already unto harvest.

36. നിങ്ങള് അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്തതു കൊയ്വാന് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; മറ്റുള്ളവര് അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചു; അവരുടെ അദ്ധ്വാനഫലത്തിലേക്കു നിങ്ങള് പ്രവേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

36. And he that reapeth receiveth reward, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal:(everlasting life) That both he that soweth, might rejoice also, and he that reapeth.(that both he that soweth and he that reapeth might rejoice to gether.)

37. ഞാന് ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു എന്നു സ്ത്രീ സാക്ഷ്യം പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു നിമിത്തം ആ പട്ടണത്തിലെ പല ശമര്യരും അവനില് വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

37. And herein is the saying(proverb) true, that one soweth; And another reapeth.

38. അങ്ങനെ ശമര്യര് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു തങ്ങളോടു കൂടെ പാര്ക്കേണം എന്നു അവനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു; അവന് രണ്ടുനാള് അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു.

38. I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labor. Other men laboured; And ye are entered into their labors.

39. ഏറ്റവും അധികംപേര് അവന്റെ വചനം കേട്ടു വിശ്വസിച്ചു

39. Many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him; For the woman's saying, which testified: He told me all things that ever I did.

40. ഇനി നിന്റെ വാക്കുകൊണ്ടല്ല ഞങ്ങള് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നതു; ഞങ്ങള് തന്നേ കേള്ക്കയും അവന് സാക്ഷാല് ലോകരക്ഷിതാവു എന്നു അറികയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്ത്രീയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

40. Then when the Samaritans were come unto him; They besought him, that he would tarry with them. And he abode there two days.

41. രണ്ടു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവന് അവിടം വിട്ടു ഗലീലെക്കു പോയി.

41. And many more believed because of his own words.

42. പ്രവാചകന്നു തന്റെ പിതൃദേശത്തു ബഹുമാനം ഇല്ല എന്നു യേശു തന്നേ സാക്ഷ്യം പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

42. And said unto the woman: Now we believe not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is even indeed(of a truth is) Christ the saviour of the world.

43. അവന് ഗലീലയില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് ഗലീലക്കാര് തങ്ങളും പെരുന്നാളിന്നു പോയി അവന് യെരൂശലേമില്വെച്ചു പെരുനാളില് ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അവനെ അംഗീകരിച്ചു.

43. After two days, he departed thence, and went away into Galilee.

44. അവന് പിന്നെയും താന് വെള്ളം വീഞ്ഞാക്കിയ ഗലീലയിലെ കാനാവില് വന്നു. അന്നു മകന് രോഗിയായിരുന്നോരു രാജഭൃത്യന് കഫര്ന്നഹൂമില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

44. And Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath none honour in his own country.

45. യേശു യെഹൂദ്യദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഗലീലയില് വന്നു എന്നു അവന് കേട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു, തന്റെ മകന് മരിപ്പാറായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവന് വന്നു അവനെ സൌഖ്യമാക്കേണം എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

45. Then as soon as he was come into Galilee, the Galileans received him which had seen all (the) things, that he did at Jerusalem on(at) the feast. For they went also unto the feast day.

46. യേശു അവനോടുനിങ്ങള് അടയാളങ്ങളും അത്ഭുതങ്ങളും കണ്ടിട്ടല്ലാതെ വിശ്വസിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

46. And Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he turned water into wine. And there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

47. രാജഭൃത്യന് അവനോടുകര്ത്താവേ, പൈതല് മരിക്കുംമുമ്പേ വരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

47. As soon as the same heard that Jesus was come out of Jewry into Galilee he went unto him, and besought him, that he would descend, and heal his son: For he was even ready to die.

48. യേശു അവനോടുപൊയ്ക്കൊള്ക; നിന്റെ മകന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യേശു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിച്ചു ആ മനുഷ്യന് പോയി.

48. Then said Jesus unto him: Except ye see signs(tokens) and wonders, ye believe not.(ye cannot believe.)

49. അവന് പോകയില് അവന്റെ ദാസന്മാര് അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു മകന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

49. The ruler said unto him: Sir come away or ever that my child die.

50. അവന്നു ഭേദം വന്ന നാഴിക അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവര് അവനോടുഇന്നലെ ഏഴുമണിക്കു പനി വിട്ടുമാറി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

50. Jesus said unto him go thy way, thy son liveth. And the man believed the words that Jesus had spoken unto him, and went his way.

51. ആകയാല് നിന്റെ മകന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യേശു പറഞ്ഞ നാഴികയില് തന്നേ എന്നു അപ്പന് ഗ്രഹിച്ചു താനും കുടുംബം ഒക്കെയും വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

51. And anon as he went on his way, his servants met him, and told him, saying: thy child liveth;

52. യേശു യെഹൂദ്യയില് നിന്നു ഗലീലയില് വന്നപ്പോള് ഇതു രണ്ടാമത്തെ അടയാളമായിട്ടു ചെയ്തു.

52. Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him: Yesterday the seventh hour, the fever left him.
