1. യേശു യോഹന്നാനെക്കാള് അധികം ശിഷ്യന്മാരെ ചേര്ത്തു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പരീശന്മാര് കേട്ടു എന്നു കര്ത്താവു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് —

1. NOW WHEN the Lord knew (learned, became aware) that the Pharisees had been told that Jesus was winning and baptizing more disciples than John--

2. ശിഷ്യന്മാര് അല്ലാതെ, യേശു തന്നേ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിച്ചില്ലതാനും —

2. Though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples--

3. അവന് യെഹൂദ്യദേശം വിട്ടു പിന്നെയും ഗലീലെക്കു യാത്രയായി. അവന് ശമര്യയില്കൂടി കടന്നുപോകേണ്ടിവന്നു.

3. He left Judea and returned to Galilee.

4. അങ്ങനെ അവന് സുഖാര് എന്നൊരു ശമര്യപട്ടണത്തില് യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ പുത്രനായയോസേഫിന്നു കൊടുത്ത നിലത്തിന്നരികെ എത്തി. അവിടെ യാക്കോബിന്റെ ഉറവുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. യേശു വഴി നടന്നു ക്ഷീണിച്ചിട്ടു ഉറവിന്നരികെ ഇരുന്നു; അപ്പോള് ഏകദേശം ആറാം മണിനേരം ആയിരുന്നു.

4. It was necessary for Him to go through Samaria.

5. ഒരു ശമര്യസ്ത്രീ വെള്ളം കോരുവാന് വന്നു; യേശു അവളോടുഎനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാന് തരുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

5. And in doing so, He arrived at a Samaritan town called Sychar, near the tract of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6. അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാര് ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങളെ കൊള്ളുവാന് പട്ടണത്തില് പോയിരുന്നു.

6. And Jacob's well was there. So Jesus, tired as He was from His journey, sat down [to rest] by the well. It was then about the sixth hour (about noon).

7. ശമര്യസ്ത്രീ അവനോടുനീ യെഹൂദന് ആയിരിക്കെ ശമര്യക്കാരത്തിയായ എന്നോടു കുടിപ്പാന് ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യെഹൂദന്മാര്ക്കും ശമര്യര്ക്കും തമ്മില് സമ്പര്ക്കമില്ല —

7. Presently, when a woman of Samaria came along to draw water, Jesus said to her, Give Me a drink--

8. അതിന്നു യേശുനീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാനവും നിന്നോടു കുടിപ്പാന് ചോദിക്കുന്നവന് ആരെന്നും അറിഞ്ഞു എങ്കില് നീ അവനോടു ചോദിക്കയും അവന് ജീവനുള്ള വെള്ളം നിനക്കു തരികയും ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

8. For His disciples had gone off into the town to buy food--

9. സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുയജമാനനേ, നിനക്കു കോരുവാന് പാത്രം ഇല്ലല്ലോ; കിണറു ആഴമുള്ളതാകുന്നു; പിന്നെ ജീവനുള്ള വെള്ളം നിനക്കു എവിടെ നിന്നു?

9. The Samaritan woman said to Him, How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan [and a] woman, for a drink?--For the Jews have nothing to do with the Samaritans--

10. നമ്മുടെ പിതാവായ യാക്കോബിനെക്കാള് നീ വലിയവനോ? അവന് ആകുന്നു ഈ കിണറു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തന്നതു; അവനും അവന്റെ മക്കളും മൃഗങ്ങളും ഇതിലെ വെള്ളം കുടിച്ചു പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Jesus answered her, If you had only known and had recognized God's gift and Who this is that is saying to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him [instead] and He would have given you living water.

11. യേശു അവളോടുഈ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുന്നവന്നു എല്ലാം പിന്നെയും ദാഹിക്കും.

11. She said to Him, Sir, You have nothing to draw with [no drawing bucket] and the well is deep; how then can You provide living water? [Where do You get Your living water?]

12. ഞാന് കൊടുക്കുന്ന വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുന്നവന്നോ ഒരുനാളും ദാഹിക്കയില്ല; ഞാന് കൊടുക്കുന്ന വെള്ളം അവനില് നിത്യജീവങ്കലേക്കു പൊങ്ങിവരുന്ന നീരുറവായിത്തീരും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Are You greater than and superior to our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well and who used to drink from it himself, and his sons and his cattle also?

13. സ്ത്രീ അവനാടുയജമാനനേ, എനിക്കു ദാഹിക്കാതെയും ഞാന് കോരുവാന് ഇവിടത്തോളം വരാതെയുമിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ആ വെള്ളം എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. Jesus answered her, All who drink of this water will be thirsty again.

14. യേശു അവളോടുപോയി ഭര്ത്താവിനെ വിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life.

15. എനിക്കു ഭര്ത്താവു ഇല്ല എന്നുസ്ത്രീ അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഎനിക്കു ഭര്ത്താവു ഇല്ല എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞതു ശരി.

15. The woman said to Him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may never get thirsty nor have to come [continually all the way] here to draw.

16. അഞ്ചു ഭര്ത്താക്കന്മാര് നിനക്കു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് ഉള്ളവനോ ഭര്ത്താവല്ല; നീ പറഞ്ഞതു സത്യം തന്നേ എന്നു യേശു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. At this, Jesus said to her, Go, call your husband and come back here.

17. സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുയജമാനനേ, നീ പ്രവാചകന് എന്നു ഞാന് കാണുന്നു.

17. The woman answered, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have spoken truly in saying, I have no husband.

18. ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാര് ഈ മലയില് നമസ്കരിച്ചുവന്നു; നമസ്കരിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന സ്ഥലം യെരൂശലേമില് ആകുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. For you have had five husbands, and the man you are now living with is not your husband. In this you have spoken truly.

19. യേശു അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുസ്ത്രീയേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിക്ക; നിങ്ങള് പിതാവിനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നതു ഈ മലയിലും അല്ല യെരൂശലേമിലും അല്ല എന്നുള്ള നാഴിക വരുന്നു.

19. The woman said to Him, Sir, I see and understand that You are a prophet.

20. നിങ്ങള് അറിയാത്തതിനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നു. ഞങ്ങളോ അറിയുന്നതിനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നു; രക്ഷ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് നിന്നല്ലോ വരുന്നതു.

20. Our forefathers worshiped on this mountain, but you [Jews] say that Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary and proper to worship.

21. സത്യനമസ്കാരികള് പിതാവിനെ ആത്മാവിലും സത്യത്തിലും നമസ്കരിക്കുന്ന നാഴിക വരുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് വന്നുമിരിക്കുന്നു. തന്നേ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നവര് ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ളവര് ആയിരിക്കേണം എന്നു പിതാവു ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

21. Jesus said to her, Woman, believe Me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither [merely] in this mountain nor [merely] in Jerusalem.

22. ദൈവം ആത്മാവു ആകുന്നു; അവനെ നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നവര് ആത്മാവിലും സത്യത്തിലും നമസ്കരിക്കേണം.
യെശയ്യാ 2:3

22. You [Samaritans] do not know what you are worshiping [you worship what you do not comprehend]. We do know what we are worshiping [we worship what we have knowledge of and understand], for [after all] salvation comes from [among] the Jews.

23. സ്ത്രീ അവനോടുമശീഹ — എന്നുവെച്ചാല് ക്രിസ്തു — വരുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; അവന് വരുമ്പോള് സകലവും അറിയിച്ചുതരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers.

24. യേശു അവളോടുനിന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഞാന് തന്നേ മശീഹ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).

25. ഇതിന്നിടയില് അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാര് വന്നു അവന് സ്ത്രീയോടു സംസാരിക്കയാല് ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു എങ്കിലുംനീ എന്തു ചോദിക്കുന്നു? അവളോടു എന്തു സംസാരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ആരും ചോദിച്ചില്ല.

25. The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming, He Who is called the Christ (the Anointed One); and when He arrives, He will tell us everything we need to know and make it clear to us.

26. അനന്തരം സ്ത്രീ പാത്രം വെച്ചിട്ടു പട്ടണത്തില് ചെന്നു ജനങ്ങളോടു

26. Jesus said to her, I Who now speak with you am He.

27. ഞാന് ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ വന്നുകാണ്മിന് ; അവന് പക്ഷേ ക്രിസ്തു ആയിരിക്കുമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. Just then His disciples came and they wondered (were surprised, astonished) to find Him talking with a woman [a married woman]. However, not one of them asked Him, What are You inquiring about? or What do You want? or, Why do You speak with her?

28. അവര് പട്ടണത്തില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

28. Then the woman left her water jar and went away to the town. And she began telling the people,

29. അതിന്നിടയില് ശിഷ്യന്മാര് അവനോടുറബ്ബീ, ഭക്ഷിച്ചാലും എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

29. Come, see a Man Who has told me everything that I ever did! Can this be [is not this] the Christ? [Must not this be the Messiah, the Anointed One?]

30. അതിന്നു അവന് നിങ്ങള് അറിയാത്ത ആഹാരം ഭക്ഷിപ്പാന് എനിക്കു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

30. So the people left the town and set out to go to Him.

31. ആകയാല് വല്ലവനും അവന്നു ഭക്ഷിപ്പാന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നുവോ എന്നു ശിഷ്യന്മാര് തമ്മില് പറഞ്ഞു.

31. Meanwhile, the disciples urged Him saying, Rabbi, eat something.

32. യേശു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഎന്നെ അയച്ചവന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം ചെയ്തു അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി തികെക്കുന്നതു തന്നെ എന്റെ ആഹാരം.

32. But He assured them, I have food (nourishment) to eat of which you know nothing and have no idea.

33. ഇനി നാലു മാസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു കൊയ്ത്തു വരുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് പറയുന്നില്ലയോ? നിങ്ങള് തല പൊക്കി നോക്കിയാല് നിലങ്ങള് ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ കൊയ്ത്തിന്നു വെളുത്തിരിക്കുന്നതു കാണും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

33. So the disciples said one to another, Has someone brought Him something to eat?

34. വിതെക്കുന്നവനും കൊയ്യുന്നവനം ഒരുമിച്ചു സന്തോഷിപ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം കൊയ്യുന്നവന് കൂലി വാങ്ങി നിത്യജീവങ്കലേക്കു വിളവു കൂട്ടിവെക്കുന്നു.

34. Jesus said to them, My food (nourishment) is to do the will (pleasure) of Him Who sent Me and to accomplish and completely finish His work.

35. വിതെക്കുന്നതു ഒരുത്തന് , കൊയ്യുന്നതു മറ്റൊരുത്തന് എന്നുള്ള പഴഞ്ചൊല് ഇതില് ഒത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

35. Do you not say, It is still four months until harvest time comes? Look! I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields and see how they are already white for harvesting.

36. നിങ്ങള് അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്തതു കൊയ്വാന് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; മറ്റുള്ളവര് അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചു; അവരുടെ അദ്ധ്വാനഫലത്തിലേക്കു നിങ്ങള് പ്രവേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

36. Already the reaper is getting his wages [he who does the cutting now has his reward], for he is gathering fruit (crop) unto life eternal, so that he who does the planting and he who does the reaping may rejoice together.

37. ഞാന് ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു എന്നു സ്ത്രീ സാക്ഷ്യം പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു നിമിത്തം ആ പട്ടണത്തിലെ പല ശമര്യരും അവനില് വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

37. For in this the saying holds true, One sows and another reaps.

38. അങ്ങനെ ശമര്യര് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു തങ്ങളോടു കൂടെ പാര്ക്കേണം എന്നു അവനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു; അവന് രണ്ടുനാള് അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു.

38. I sent you to reap a crop for which you have not toiled. Other men have labored and you have stepped in to reap the results of their work.

39. ഏറ്റവും അധികംപേര് അവന്റെ വചനം കേട്ടു വിശ്വസിച്ചു

39. Now numerous Samaritans from that town believed in and trusted in Him because of what the woman said when she declared and testified, He told me everything that I ever did.

40. ഇനി നിന്റെ വാക്കുകൊണ്ടല്ല ഞങ്ങള് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നതു; ഞങ്ങള് തന്നേ കേള്ക്കയും അവന് സാക്ഷാല് ലോകരക്ഷിതാവു എന്നു അറികയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്ത്രീയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

40. So when the Samaritans arrived, they asked Him to remain with them, and He did stay there two days.

41. രണ്ടു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവന് അവിടം വിട്ടു ഗലീലെക്കു പോയി.

41. Then many more believed in and adhered to and relied on Him because of His personal message [what He Himself said].

42. പ്രവാചകന്നു തന്റെ പിതൃദേശത്തു ബഹുമാനം ഇല്ല എന്നു യേശു തന്നേ സാക്ഷ്യം പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

42. And they told the woman, Now we no longer believe (trust, have faith) just because of what you said; for we have heard Him ourselves [personally], and we know that He truly is the Savior of the world, the Christ.

43. അവന് ഗലീലയില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് ഗലീലക്കാര് തങ്ങളും പെരുന്നാളിന്നു പോയി അവന് യെരൂശലേമില്വെച്ചു പെരുനാളില് ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അവനെ അംഗീകരിച്ചു.

43. But after these two days Jesus went on from there into Galilee--

44. അവന് പിന്നെയും താന് വെള്ളം വീഞ്ഞാക്കിയ ഗലീലയിലെ കാനാവില് വന്നു. അന്നു മകന് രോഗിയായിരുന്നോരു രാജഭൃത്യന് കഫര്ന്നഹൂമില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

44. Although He Himself declared that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

45. യേശു യെഹൂദ്യദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഗലീലയില് വന്നു എന്നു അവന് കേട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു, തന്റെ മകന് മരിപ്പാറായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവന് വന്നു അവനെ സൌഖ്യമാക്കേണം എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

45. However, when He came into Galilee, the Galileans also welcomed Him and took Him to their hearts eagerly, for they had seen everything that He did in Jerusalem during the Feast; for they too had attended the Feast.

46. യേശു അവനോടുനിങ്ങള് അടയാളങ്ങളും അത്ഭുതങ്ങളും കണ്ടിട്ടല്ലാതെ വിശ്വസിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

46. So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son was lying ill in Capernaum.

47. രാജഭൃത്യന് അവനോടുകര്ത്താവേ, പൈതല് മരിക്കുംമുമ്പേ വരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

47. Having heard that Jesus had come back from Judea into Galilee, he went away to meet Him and began to beg Him to come down and cure his son, for he was lying at the point of death.

48. യേശു അവനോടുപൊയ്ക്കൊള്ക; നിന്റെ മകന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യേശു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിച്ചു ആ മനുഷ്യന് പോയി.

48. Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see signs and miracles happen, you [people] never will believe (trust, have faith) at all.

49. അവന് പോകയില് അവന്റെ ദാസന്മാര് അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു മകന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

49. The king's officer pleaded with Him, Sir, do come down at once before my little child is dead!

50. അവന്നു ഭേദം വന്ന നാഴിക അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവര് അവനോടുഇന്നലെ ഏഴുമണിക്കു പനി വിട്ടുമാറി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

50. Jesus answered him, Go in peace; your son will live! And the man put his trust in what Jesus said and started home.

51. ആകയാല് നിന്റെ മകന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യേശു പറഞ്ഞ നാഴികയില് തന്നേ എന്നു അപ്പന് ഗ്രഹിച്ചു താനും കുടുംബം ഒക്കെയും വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

51. But even as he was on the road going down, his servants met him and reported, saying, Your son lives!

52. യേശു യെഹൂദ്യയില് നിന്നു ഗലീലയില് വന്നപ്പോള് ഇതു രണ്ടാമത്തെ അടയാളമായിട്ടു ചെയ്തു.

52. So he asked them at what time he had begun to get better. They said, Yesterday during the seventh hour (about one o'clock in the afternoon) the fever left him.
