1. വിശ്വാസം എന്നതോ, ആശിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഉറപ്പും കാണാത്ത കാര്യങ്ങളുടെ നിശ്ചയവും ആകുന്നു.

1. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

2. അതിനാലല്ലോ പൂര്വ്വന്മാര്ക്കും സാക്ഷ്യം ലഭിച്ചതു.

2. For by it the elders obtained a good report.

3. ഈ കാണുന്ന ലോകത്തിന്നു ദൃശ്യമായതല്ല കാരണം എന്നു വരുമാറു ലോകം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വചനത്താല് നിര്മ്മിക്കപ്പെട്ടു എന്നു നാം വിശ്വാസത്താല് അറിയുന്നു.

3. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of Elohim, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

4. വിശ്വാസത്താല് ഹാബേല് ദൈവത്തിന്നു കയീന്റേതിലും ഉത്തമമായ യാഗം കഴിച്ചു; അതിനാല് അവന്നു നീതിമാന് എന്ന സാക്ഷ്യം ലഭിച്ചു; ദൈവം അവന്റെ വഴിപാടിന്നു സാക്ഷ്യം കല്പിച്ചു. മരിച്ചശേഷവും അവന് വിശ്വാസത്താല് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. By faith Abel offered unto YHWH a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, YHWH testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

5. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because YHWH had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased YHWH.

6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to YHWH must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

7. വിശ്വാസത്താല് നോഹ അതുവരെ കാണാത്തവയെക്കുറിച്ചു അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായിട്ടു ഭയഭക്തി പൂണ്ടു തന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ രക്ഷക്കായിട്ടു ഒരു പെട്ടകം തീര്ത്തു; അതിനാല് അവന് ലോകത്തെ കുറ്റം വിധിച്ചു വിശ്വാസത്താലുള്ള നീതിക്കു അവകാശിയായിത്തീര്ന്നു.

7. By faith Noah, being warned of YHWH of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

9. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

11. Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

13. These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

14. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

15. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

16. അവരോ അധികം നല്ലതിനെ, സ്വര്ഗ്ഗീയമായതിനെ തന്നേ, കാംക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നു; ആകയാല് ദൈവം അവരുടെ ദൈവം എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുവാന് ലജ്ജിക്കുന്നില്ല; അവന് അവര്ക്കായി ഒരു നഗരം ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

16. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore YHWH is not ashamed to be called their Elohim: for he hath prepared for them a city.

19. Accounting that YHWH was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

20. By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

21. By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

24. By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaohs daughter;

25. Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of YHWH, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

31. By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

34. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

35. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

37. They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

38. കാടുകളിലും മലകളിലും ഗുഹകളിലും ഭൂമിയുടെ പിളര്പ്പുകളിലും ഉഴന്നു വലഞ്ഞു; ലോകം അവര്ക്കും യോഗ്യമായിരുന്നില്ല.

38. (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

39. അവര് എല്ലാവരും വിശ്വാസത്താല് സാക്ഷ്യം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടും വാഗ്ദത്തനിവൃത്തി പ്രാപിച്ചില്ല.

39. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

40. അവര് നമ്മെ കൂടാതെ രക്ഷാപൂര്ത്തി പ്രാപിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം നമുക്കു വേണ്ടി ഏറ്റവും നല്ലതൊന്നു മുന് കരുതിയിരുന്നു.

40. YHWH having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
