1. രാജാവിന്റെ മനസ്സു അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ നേരെ ചാഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സെരൂയയുടെ മകനായ യോവാബ് അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് തെക്കോവയിലേക്കു ആളയച്ചു

1. So Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart [was] concerned about Absalom.

2. അവിടെനിന്നു വിവേകവതിയായ ഒരു സ്ത്രീയെ വരുത്തി അവളോടുമരിച്ചുപോയവനെക്കുറിച്ചു ഏറിയനാളായിട്ടു ദുഃഖിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഭാര്യയുടെ ഭാവത്തില് നീ ദുഃഖംനടിച്ചും ദുഃഖവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചും തൈലം പൂശാതെയും

2. And Joab sent to Tekoa and brought from there a wise woman, and said to her, 'Please pretend to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel; do not anoint yourself with oil, but act like a woman who has been mourning a long time for the dead.

3. രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവനോടു ഇന്നിന്നപ്രകാരം സംസാരിക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; യോവാബ് വാചകം അവള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു.

3. Go to the king and speak to him in this manner.' So Joab put the words in her mouth.

4. ഇങ്ങനെ തെക്കോവക്കാരത്തിയായ സ്ത്രീ രാജാവിനോടു സംസാരിപ്പാന് ചെന്നു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചുരാജാവേ, രക്ഷിക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. And when the woman of Tekoa spoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground and prostrated herself, and said, 'Help, O king!'

5. രാജാവു അവളോടുനിനക്കു എന്തുവേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവള് പറഞ്ഞതുഅടിയന് ഒരു വിധവ ആകുന്നു; ഭര്ത്താവു മരിച്ചുപോയി.

5. Then the king said to her, 'What troubles you?' And she answered, 'Indeed I [am] a widow, my husband is dead.

6. എന്നാല് അടിയന്നു രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവര് വയലില്വെച്ചു തമ്മില് കലഹിച്ചു; അവരെ പിടിച്ചുമാറ്റുവാന് ആരും ഇല്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു ഒരുത്തന് മറ്റവനെ അടിച്ചുകൊന്നു.

6. 'Now your maidservant had two sons; and the two fought with each other in the field, and [there was] no one to part them, but the one struck the other and killed him.

7. കുലം മുഴുവനും അടിയന്റെ നേരെ എഴുന്നേറ്റുസഹോദരഘാതകനെ ഏല്പിച്ചുതരിക; അവന് കൊന്ന സഹോദരന്റെ ജീവന്നു പകരം അവനെ കൊന്നു അങ്ങനെ അവകാശിയെയും നശിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറയുന്നു; ഇങ്ങനെ അവര് എന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവിന്നു പേരും സന്തതിയും ഭൂമിയില് വെച്ചേക്കാതെ എനിക്കു ശേഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കനലും കെടുത്തുകളവാന് ഭാവിക്കുന്നു.

7. 'And now the whole family has risen up against your maidservant, and they said, 'Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may execute him for the life of his brother whom he killed; and we will destroy the heir also.' So they would extinguish my ember that is left, and leave to my husband [neither] name nor remnant on the earth.'

8. രാജാവു സ്ത്രീയോടുനിന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോക; ഞാന് നിന്റെ കാര്യത്തില് കല്പന കൊടുക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then the king said to the woman, 'Go to your house, and I will give orders concerning you.'

9. ആ തെക്കോവക്കാരത്തി രാജാവിനാടുഎന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, കുറ്റം എന്റെ മേലും എന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിന്മേലും ഇരിക്കട്ടെ; രാജാവിന്നും സിംഹാസനത്തിന്നും കുറ്റമില്ലാതെ ഇരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And the woman of Tekoa said to the king, 'My lord, O king, [let] the iniquity [be] on me and on my father's house, and the king and his throne [be] guiltless.'

10. അതിന്നു രാജാവുനിന്നോടു വല്ലതും പറയുന്നവനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരിക; അവന് പിന്നെ നിന്നെ തൊടുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. So the king said, 'Whoever says [anything] to you, bring him to me, and he shall not touch you anymore.'

11. രക്തപ്രതികാരകന് അധികം സംഹാരം ചെയ്കയും എന്റെ മകനെ അവര് നശിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്യാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു രാജാവു ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ ഔര്ക്കേണമേ എന്നു അവള് പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു അവന് യഹോവയാണ, നിന്റെ മകന്റെ ഒരു രോമം പോലും നിലത്തു വീഴുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Then she said, 'Please let the king remember the LORD your God, and do not permit the avenger of blood to destroy anymore, lest they destroy my son.' And he said, '[As] the LORD lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground.'

12. അപ്പോള് ആ സ്ത്രീയജമാനനായ രാജാവിനോടു അടിയന് ഒരു വാക്കു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. പറക എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Therefore the woman said, 'Please, let your maidservant speak [another] word to my lord the king.' And he said, 'Say on.'

13. ആ സ്ത്രീ പറഞ്ഞതുഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള കാര്യം നീ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ജനത്തിന്നു വിരോധമായി വിചാരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? രാജാവു തന്റെ ഭ്രഷ്ടനെ മടക്കി വരുത്താഞ്ഞതിനാല് ഇപ്പോള് കല്പിച്ച വചനംകൊണ്ടു രാജാവു തന്നേ കുറ്റക്കാരനെന്നു വന്നുവല്ലോ.

13. So the woman said: 'Why then have you schemed such a thing against the people of God? For the king speaks this thing as one who is guilty, [in that] the king does not bring his banished one home again.

14. നാം മരിക്കേണ്ടുന്നവരല്ലോനിലത്തു ഒഴിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞതും വീണ്ടും ചേര്ത്തുകൂടാത്തതുമായ വെള്ളംപോലെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; ദൈവം ജീവനെ എടുത്തുകളയാതെ ഭ്രഷ്ടനായവന് തനിക്കു ഇനിയും ഭ്രഷ്ടനായിരിക്കാതവണ്ണം മാര്ഗ്ഗം ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു.

14. 'For we will surely die and [become] like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him.

15. ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ ഈ കാര്യം ഉണര്ത്തിപ്പാന് വന്നതു ജനം എന്നെ ഭയപ്പെടുത്തുകകൊണ്ടാകുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഇപ്പോള് രാജാവിനെ ഉണര്ത്തിക്കട്ടെ. പക്ഷേ രാജാവു അടിയന്റെ അപേക്ഷ പ്രകാരം ചെയ്യുമായിരിക്കും;

15. 'Now therefore, I have come to speak of this thing to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid. And your maidservant said, 'I will now speak to the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his maidservant.

16. രാജാവു കേട്ടു എന്നെയും എന്റെ മകനെയും ഒന്നിച്ചു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അവകാശത്തില്നിന്നു നശിപ്പിപ്പാന് ഭാവിക്കുന്നവന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കുമല്ലോ എന്നു അടിയന് വിചാരിച്ചു.

16. 'For the king will hear and deliver his maidservant from the hand of the man [who would] destroy me and my son together from the inheritance of God.'

17. യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ കല്പന ആശ്വാസമായിരിക്കട്ടെ; ഗുണവും ദോഷവും തിരിച്ചറിവാന് യജമാനനായ രാജാവു ഒരു ദൈവദൂതനെപ്പോലെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നും അടിയന് വിചാരിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ.

17. 'Your maidservant said, 'The word of my lord the king will now be comforting; for as the angel of God, so [is] my lord the king in discerning good and evil. And may the LORD your God be with you.' '

18. രാജാവു സ്ത്രീയോടുഞാന് നിന്നോടു ഒരു കാര്യം ചോദിക്കുന്നു; അതു എന്നോടു മറെച്ചുവെക്കരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യജമാനനായ രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചാലും എന്നു സ്ത്രീ പറഞ്ഞു.

18. Then the king answered and said to the woman, 'Please do not hide from me anything that I ask you.' And the woman said, 'Please, let my lord the king speak.'

19. അപ്പോള് രാജാവുഇതിലൊക്കെയും യോവാബിന്റെ കൈ ഇല്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു സ്ത്രീ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുയജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, നിന്റെ ജീവനാണ, യജമാനനായ രാജാവു അരുളിച്ചെയ്താല് വലത്തോട്ടോ ഇടത്തോട്ടോ ആര്ക്കും മാറിക്കൂടാ; നിന്റെ ഭൃത്യനായ യോവാബ് തന്നേ ആകുന്നു ഇതു അടിയനോടു കല്പിച്ചതു; അവന് തന്നേ ഈ വാചകമൊക്കെയും അടിയന്നു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതന്നതു.

19. So the king said, '[Is] the hand of Joab with you in all this?' And the woman answered and said, '[As] you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab commanded me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your maidservant.

20. കാര്യത്തിന്റെ രൂപം മാറ്റേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്റെ ഭൃത്യനായ യോവാബ് ഇതു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാല് ഭൂമിയിലുള്ളതൊക്കെയും അറിവാന് ഒരു ദൈവദൂതന്റെ ജ്ഞാനത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം എന്റെ യജമാനന് ജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവനാകുന്നു.

20. 'To bring about this change of affairs your servant Joab has done this thing; but my lord [is] wise, according to the wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that [is] in the earth.'

21. രാജാവു യോവാബിനോടുഞാന് ഈ കാര്യം സമ്മതിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു നീ ചെന്നു അബ്ശാലോംകുമാരനെ കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

21. And the king said to Joab, 'All right, I have granted this thing. Go therefore, bring back the young man Absalom.'

22. യോവാബ് സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു രാജാവിനെ അഭിനന്ദിച്ചുയജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, അടിയന്റെ വാക്കു പോലെ രാജാവു ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു അടിയന്നു തിരുമുമ്പില് കൃപ ലഭിച്ചു എന്നു അടിയന് ഇന്നു അറിയുന്നു എന്നു യോവാബ് പറഞ്ഞു.

22. Then Joab fell to the ground on his face and bowed himself, and thanked the king. And Joab said, 'Today your servant knows that I have found favor in your sight, my lord, O king, in that the king has fulfilled the request of his servant.'

23. അങ്ങനെ യോവാബ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഗെശൂരില് ചെന്നു അബ്ശാലോമിനെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു വന്നു.

23. So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

24. എന്നാല് രാജാവുഅവന് തന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോകട്ടെ; എന്റെ മുഖം അവന് കാണരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ അബ്ശാലോം തന്റെ വീട്ടില് പോയി; രാജാവിന്റെ മുഖം കണ്ടതുമില്ല.

24. And the king said, 'Let him return to his own house, but do not let him see my face.' So Absalom returned to his own house, but did not see the king's face.

25. എന്നാല് എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിലും സൌന്ദര്യംകൊണ്ടു അബ്ശാലോമിനോളം ശ്ളാഘ്യനായ ഒരുത്തനും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല; അടിതൊട്ടു മുടിവരെ അവന്നു ഒരു ഊനവും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

25. Now in all Israel there was no one who was praised as much as Absalom for his good looks. From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

26. അവന് തന്റെ തലമുടി ആണ്ടുതോറും കത്രിപ്പിച്ചുകളയും; അതു തനിക്കു ഭാരമായിരിക്കയാല് അത്രേ കത്രിപ്പിച്ചതു; അവന്റെ തലമുടി കത്രിച്ചാല് രാജതൂക്കത്തിന്നു ഇരുനൂറു ശേക്കെല് കാണും.

26. And when he cut the hair of his head -- at the end of every year he cut [it] because it was heavy on him -- when he cut it, he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels according to the king's standard.

27. അബ്ശാലോമിന്നു മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരും താമാര് എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു മകളും ജനിച്ചിരുന്നു; അവള് സൌന്ദര്യമുള്ള സ്ത്രീ ആയിരുന്നു.

27. To Absalom were born three sons, and one daughter whose name [was] Tamar. She was a woman of beautiful appearance.

28. രാജാവിന്റെ മുഖം കാണാതെ അബ്ശാലോം രണ്ടു സംവത്സരം മുഴുവനും യെരൂശലേമില് പാര്ത്തു.

28. And Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, but did not see the king's face.

29. ആകയാല് അബ്ശാലോം യോവാബിനെ രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവനെ വിളിപ്പാന് ആളയച്ചു. എന്നാല് അവന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നില്ല. രണ്ടാമതു പറഞ്ഞയച്ചിട്ടും അവന് ചെന്നില്ല.

29. Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king, but he would not come to him. And when he sent again the second time, he would not come.

30. അതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുഎന്റെ നിലത്തിന്നരികെ യോവാബിന്നു ഒരു നിലം ഉണ്ടല്ലോ; അതില് യവം വിളഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു അതു തീവെച്ചു ചുട്ടുകളവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് ആ കൃഷി ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

30. So he said to his servants, 'See, Joab's field is near mine, and he has barley there; go and set it on fire.' And Absalom's servants set the field on fire.

31. അപ്പോള് യോവാബ് എഴുന്നേറ്റു അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ വീട്ടില് ചെന്നു അവനോടുനിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് എന്റെ കൃഷി ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

31. Then Joab arose and came to Absalom's house, and said to him, 'Why have your servants set my field on fire?'

32. അബ്ശാലോം യോവാബിനോടുഞാന് ഗെശൂരില്നിന്നു എന്തിന്നു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു? ഞാന് അവിടെത്തന്നേ പാര്ത്തിരുന്നെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു എന്നു രാജാവിനോടു പറവാന് നിന്നെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ഇവിടെ വരേണം എന്നു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞയച്ചുവല്ലോ; എനിക്കു ഇപ്പോള് രാജാവിന്റെ മുഖം കാണേണം; എന്നില് കുറ്റം ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് അവന് എന്നെ കൊല്ലട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. And Absalom answered Joab, 'Look, I sent to you, saying, 'Come here, so that I may send you to the king, to say, 'Why have I come from Geshur? [It would be] better for me [to be] there still.' ' Now therefore, let me see the king's face; but if there is iniquity in me, let him execute me.'

33. യോവാബ് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു വസ്തുത അറിയിച്ചു; അവന് അബ്ശാലോമിനെ വിളിപ്പിച്ചു; അവന് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; രാജാവു അബ്ശാലോമിനെ ചുംബിച്ചു.

33. So Joab went to the king and told him. And when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king. Then the king kissed Absalom.
