1. യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായി ദാവീദിന്റെ മകനായ ശലോമോന്റെ സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങള്.

1. The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel;

2. ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും പ്രാപിപ്പാനും വിവേകവചനങ്ങളെ ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും

2. to know wisdom and chastening; to understand prudent words;

3. പരിജ്ഞാനം, നീതി, ന്യായം, നേര് എന്നിവെക്കായി പ്രബോധനം ലഭിപ്പാനും

3. to receive the chastening of prudence, justice, judgment, and equity;

4. അല്പബുദ്ധികള്ക്കു സൂക്ഷ്മബുദ്ധിയും ബാലന്നു പരിജ്ഞാനവും വകതിരിവും നലകുവാനും

4. to give prudence to the simple, and to the young men knowledge and council.

5. ജ്ഞാനി കേട്ടിട്ടു വിദ്യാഭിവൃദ്ധിപ്രാപിപ്പാനും, ബുദ്ധിമാന് സദുപദേശം സമ്പാദിപ്പാനും

5. If the wise will hear [them], doctrine shall increase, and the man of understanding shall acquire wise counsel:

6. സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങളും അലങ്കാരവചനങ്ങളും ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ മൊഴികളും കടങ്കഥകളും മനസ്സിലാക്കുവാനും അവ ഉതകുന്നു.

6. To understand [a] parable and [the] interpretation; the words of the wise and their enigmas.

7. യഹോവാഭക്തി ജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭമാകുന്നു; ഭോഷന്മാരോ ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും നിരസിക്കുന്നു.

7. The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of knowledge, [but] fools despise wisdom and chastening.

8. മകനേ, അപ്പന്റെ പ്രബോധനം കേള്ക്ക. അമ്മയുടെ ഉപദേശം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കയുമരുതു;

8. My son, hearken unto the chastening of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

9. അവ നിന്റെ ശിരസ്സിന്നു അലങ്കാരമാലയും നിന്റെ കഴുത്തിന്നു സരപ്പളിയും ആയിരിക്കും.

9. For they [shall be] an increase of grace unto thy head and protection about thy neck.

10. മകനേ, പാപികള് നിന്നെ വശീകരിച്ചാല് വഴിപ്പെട്ടുപോകരുതു.

10. My son, if sinners entice thee, do not consent.

11. ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരിക; നാം രക്തത്തിന്നായി പതിയിരിക്ക; നിര്ദ്ദോഷിയെ കാരണം കൂടാതെ പിടിപ്പാന് ഒളിച്ചിരിക്ക.

11. If they say, Come with us, let us lay [in] wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without cause.

12. പാതാളംപോലെ അവരെ ജീവനോടെയും കുഴിയില് ഇറങ്ങുന്നവരെപ്പോലെ അവരെ സര്വ്വാംഗമായും വിഴുങ്ങിക്കളക.

12. Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol and whole as those that go down into the pit;

13. നമുക്കു വലിയേറിയ സമ്പത്തൊക്കെയും കിട്ടും; നമ്മുടെ വീടുകളെ കൊള്ളകൊണ്ടു നിറെക്കാം.

13. We shall find all kinds of riches, we shall fill our houses with spoil.

14. നിനക്കു ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ സമാംശം കിട്ടും; നമുക്കു എല്ലാവര്ക്കും സഞ്ചി ഒന്നായിരിക്കും; എന്നിങ്ങനെ അവര് പറഞ്ഞാല്;

14. Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

15. മകനേ, നീ അവരുടെ വഴിക്കു പോകരുതു; നിന്റെ കാല് അവരുടെ പാതയില് വെക്കയുമരുതു.

15. My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

16. അവരുടെ കാല് ദോഷം ചെയ്വാന് ഔടുന്നു; രക്തം ചൊരിയിപ്പാന് അവര് ബദ്ധപ്പെടുന്നു.

16. For their feet shall run to evil and make haste to shed blood.

17. പക്ഷി കാണ്കെ വലവിരിക്കുന്നതു വ്യര്ത്ഥമല്ലോ.

17. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18. അവര് സ്വന്ത രക്തത്തിന്നായി പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; സ്വന്തപ്രാണഹാനിക്കായി ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. And they lay [in]wait for their [own] blood; they ambush their [own] souls.

19. ദുരാഗ്രഹികളായ ഏവരുടെയും വഴികള് അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ; അതു അവരുടെ ജീവനെ എടുത്തുകളയുന്നു.

19. So [are] the ways of every one that is greedy of gain [which] takes away the life of those who possess it.

20. ജ്ഞാനമായവള് വീഥിയില് ഘോഷിക്കുന്നു; വിശാലസ്ഥലത്തു സ്വരം കേള്പ്പിക്കുന്നു.

20. Wisdom cries without; she utters her voice in the streets:

21. അവള് ആരവമുള്ള തെരുക്കളുടെ തലെക്കല് നിന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നു; നഗരദ്വാരങ്ങളിലും നഗരത്തിന്നകത്തും പ്രസ്താവിക്കുന്നതു

21. She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the entrance to the gates of the city she utters her words, [saying,]

22. ബുദ്ധിഹീനരേ, നിങ്ങള് ബുദ്ധീഹിനതയില് രസിക്കയും പരിഹാസികളേ, നിങ്ങള് പരിഹാസത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കയും ഭോഷന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങള് പരിജ്ഞാനത്തെ വെറുക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു എത്രത്തോളം?

22. How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and the fools hate knowledge?

23. എന്റെ ശാസനെക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞുകൊള്വിന് ; ഞാന് എന്റെ മനസ്സു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു പൊഴിച്ചു തരും; എന്റെ വചനങ്ങള് നിങ്ങളെ അറിയിക്കും.

23. Return at my reproof; behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

24. ഞാന് വിളിച്ചിട്ടു നിങ്ങള് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെയും ഞാന് കൈ നീട്ടീട്ടു ആരും കൂട്ടാക്കാതെയും

24. Because I have called and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one responded;

25. നിങ്ങള് എന്റെ ആലോചന ഒക്കെയും ത്യജിച്ചുകളകയും എന്റെ ശാസനയെ ഒട്ടും അനുസരിക്കാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു

25. [for because] ye have disregarded all my counsel and rejected my reproof:

26. ഞാനും നിങ്ങളുടെ അനര്ത്ഥദിവസത്തില് ചിരിക്കും; നിങ്ങള് ഭയപ്പെടുന്നതു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഭവിക്കുമ്പോള് പരിഹസിക്കും.

26. I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes upon [you];

27. നിങ്ങള് ഭയപ്പെടുന്നതു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു കൊടുങ്കാറ്റുപോലെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ആപത്തു ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റുപോലെയും വരുമ്പോള്, കഷ്ടവും സങ്കടവും നിങ്ങള്ക്കു വരുമ്പോള് തന്നേ.

27. when what you have feared comes as destruction, and your calamity comes as a whirlwind; when tribulation and anguish come upon you.

28. അപ്പോള് അവര് എന്നെ വിളിക്കും; ഞാന് ഉത്തരം പറകയില്ല. എന്നെ ജാഗ്രതയോടെ അന്വേഷിക്കും; കണ്ടെത്തുകയുമില്ല.

28. Then they shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29. അവര് പരിജ്ഞാനത്തെ വെറുത്തല്ലോ; യഹോവാഭക്തിയെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തതുമില്ല.

29. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

30. അവര് എന്റെ ആലോചന അനുസരിക്കാതെ എന്റെ ശാസന ഒക്കെയും നിരസിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു

30. They rejected my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31. അവര് സ്വന്തവഴിയുടെ ഫലം അനുഭവിക്കയും തങ്ങളുടെ ആലോചനകളാല് തൃപ്തി പ്രാപിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

31. Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own counsel.

32. ബുദ്ധിഹീനരുടെ പിന്മാറ്റം അവരെ കൊല്ലും; ഭോഷന്മാരുടെ നിശ്ചിന്ത അവരെ നശിപ്പിക്കും.

32. For the rest of the ignorant shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

33. എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കുന്നവനോ നിര്ഭയം വസിക്കയും ദോഷഭയം കൂടാതെ സ്വൈരമായിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

33. But whosoever hearkens unto me shall dwell safely and shall rest from [the] fear of evil.:
