1. ഞാന് എന്റെ കണ്ണുമായി ഒരു നിയമം ചെയ്തു; പിന്നെ ഞാന് ഒരു കന്യകയെ നോക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

1. 'I made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I entertain thoughts against a virgin?

2. എന്നാല് മേലില്നിന്നു ദൈവം നലകുന്ന ഔഹരിയും ഉയരത്തില്നിന്നു സര്വ്വശക്തന് തരുന്ന അവകാശവും എന്തു?

2. What then would be one's lot from God above, one's heritage from the Almighty on high?

3. നീതികെട്ടവന്നു അപായവും ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കാര്ക്കും വിപത്തുമല്ലയോ?

3. Is it not misfortune for the unjust, and disaster for those who work iniquity?

4. എന്റെ വഴികളെ അവന് കാണുന്നില്ലയോ? എന്റെ കാലടികളെയൊക്കെയും എണ്ണുന്നില്ലയോ?

4. Does he not see my ways and count all my steps?

5. ഞാന് കപടത്തില് നടന്നുവെങ്കില്, എന്റെ കാല് വഞ്ചനെക്കു ഔടിയെങ്കില് -

5. If I have walked in falsehood, and if my foot has hastened to deceit

6. ദൈവം എന്റെ പരമാര്ത്ഥത അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒത്ത ത്രാസില് എന്നെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ -

6. let him weigh me with honest scales; then God will discover my integrity.

7. എന്റെ കാലടി വഴിവിട്ടു മാറിയെങ്കില്, എന്റെ ഹൃദയം എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു പിന്തുടര്ന്നുവെങ്കില്, വല്ല കറയും എന്റെ കൈകൂ പറ്റിയെങ്കില്,

7. If my footsteps have strayed from the way, if my heart has gone after my eyes, or if anything has defiled my hands,

8. ഞാന് വിതെച്ചതു മറ്റൊരുത്തന് തിന്നട്ടെ; എന്റെ സന്തതിക്കു മൂലനാശം ഭവിക്കട്ടെ.

8. then let me sow and let another eat, and let my crops be uprooted.

9. എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഒരു സ്ത്രീയിങ്കല് ഭ്രമിച്ചുപോയെങ്കില്, കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് ഞാന് പതിയിരുന്നു എങ്കില്,

9. If my heart has been enticed by a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbor's door,

10. എന്റെ ഭാര്യ മറ്റൊരുത്തന്നു മാവു പൊടിക്കട്ടെ; അന്യര് അവളുടെ മേല് കുനിയട്ടെ.

10. then let my wife turn the millstone for another man, and may other men have sexual relations with her.

11. അതു മഹാപാതകമല്ലോ, ന്യായാധിപന്മാര് ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന കുറ്റമത്രേ;

11. For I would have committed a shameful act, an iniquity to be judged.

12. അതു നരകപര്യന്തം ദഹിപ്പിക്കുന്ന തീയാകുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ അനുഭവം ഒക്കെയും നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കും.

12. For it is a fire that devours even to Destruction, and it would uproot all my harvest.

13. എന്റെ ദാസനോ ദാസിയോ എന്നോടു വാദിച്ചിട്ടു ഞാന് അവരുടെ ന്യായം തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞെങ്കില്,

13. 'If I have disregarded the right of my male servants or my female servants when they disputed with me,

14. ദൈവം എഴുന്നേലക്കുമ്പോള് ഞാന് എന്തു ചെയ്യും? അവന് സന്ദര്ശിക്കുമ്പോള് ഞാന് എന്തുത്തരം പറയും?

14. then what will I do when God confronts me in judgment; when he intervenes, how will I respond to him?

15. ഗര്ഭത്തില് എന്നെ ഉരുവാക്കിയവനല്ലയോ അവനെയും ഉരുവാക്കിയതു? ഉദരത്തില് ഞങ്ങളെ നിര്മ്മിച്ചതു ഒരുത്തനല്ലയോ?

15. Did not the one who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us in the womb?

16. ദരിദ്രന്മാരുടെ ആഗ്രഹം ഞാന് മുടക്കിയെങ്കില്, വിധവയുടെ കണ്ണു ഞാന് ക്ഷീണിപ്പിച്ചെങ്കില്,

16. If I have refused to give the poor what they desired, or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

17. അനാഥന്നു അംശം കൊടുക്കാതെ ഞാന് തനിച്ചു എന്റെ ആഹാരം കഴിച്ചെങ്കില് -

17. If I ate my morsel of bread myself, and did not share any of it with orphans

18. ബാല്യംമുതല് ഞാന് അപ്പന് എന്നപോലെ അവനെ വളര്ത്തുകയും ജനിച്ചതുമുതല് അവളെ പരിപാലിക്കയും ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ -

18. but from my youth I raised the orphan like a father, and from my mother's womb I guided the widow!

19. ഒരുത്തന് വസ്ത്രമില്ലാതെ നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നതോ ദരിദ്രന് പുതപ്പില്ലാതെ ഇരിക്കുന്നതോ ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടു

19. If I have seen anyone about to perish for lack of clothing, or a poor man without a coat,

20. അവന്റെ അര എന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ലെങ്കില്, എന്റെ ആടുകളുടെ രോമംകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു കുളിര് മാറിയില്ലെങ്കില്,

20. whose heart did not bless me as he warmed himself with the fleece of my sheep,

21. പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് എനിക്കു സഹായം കണ്ടിട്ടു ഞാന് അനാഥന്റെ നേരെ കയ്യോങ്ങിയെങ്കില്,

21. if I have raised my hand to vote against the orphan, when I saw my support in the court,

22. എന്റെ ഭുജം തോള്പലകയില്നിന്നു വീഴട്ടെ; എന്റെ കയ്യുടെ ഏപ്പു വിട്ടുപോകട്ടെ.

22. then let my arm fall from the shoulder, let my arm be broken off at the socket.

23. ദൈവം അയച്ച വിപത്തു എനിക്കു ഭയങ്കരമായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ഔന്നത്യംനിമിത്തം എനിക്കു ആവതില്ലാതെയായി.

23. For the calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his majesty I was powerless.

24. ഞാന് പൊന്നു എന്റെ ശരണമാക്കിയെങ്കില്, തങ്കത്തോടു നീ എന്റെ ആശ്രയം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവെങ്കില്,

24. 'If I have put my confidence in gold or said to pure gold, 'You are my security!'

25. എന്റെ ധനം വളരെയായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടും എന്റെ കൈ അധികം സമ്പാദിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടും ഞാന് സന്തോഷിച്ചുവെങ്കില്,

25. if I have rejoiced because of the extent of my wealth, or because of the great wealth my hand had gained,

26. സൂര്യന് പ്രകാശിക്കുന്നതോ ചന്ദ്രന് ശോഭയോടെ ഗമിക്കുന്നതോ കണ്ടിട്ടു

26. if I looked at the sun when it was shining, and the moon advancing as a precious thing,

27. എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഗൂഢമായി വശീകരിക്കപ്പെടുകയും എന്റെ വായി എന്റെ കയ്യെ ചുംബിക്കയും ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില്,

27. so that my heart was secretly enticed, and my hand threw them a kiss from my mouth,

28. അതു ന്യായാധിപന്മാര് ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന കുറ്റം അത്രെ; അതിനാല് ഉയരത്തിലെ ദൈവത്തെ ഞാന് നിഷേധിച്ചു എന്നു വരുമല്ലോ.

28. then this also would be iniquity to be judged, for I would have been false to God above.

29. എന്റെ വൈരിയുടെ നാശത്തിങ്കല് ഞാന് സന്തോഷിക്കയോ, അവന്റെ അനര്ത്ഥത്തിങ്കല് ഞാന് നിഗളിക്കയോ ചെയ്തു എങ്കില്--

29. If I have rejoiced over the misfortune of my enemy or exulted because calamity found him

30. അവന്റെ പ്രാണനാശം ഇച്ഛിച്ചു ഞാന് ശാപം ചൊല്ലി പാപം ചെയ്വാന് എന്റെ വായെ ഒരിക്കലും സമ്മതിച്ചിട്ടില്ല--

30. I have not even permitted my mouth to sin by asking for his life through a curse

31. അവന്റെ മേശെക്കല് മാംസം തിന്നു തൃപ്തി വരാത്തവര് ആര്

31. if the members of my household have never said, 'If only there were someone who has not been satisfied from Job's meat!'

32. എന്നിങ്ങനെ എന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിലെ ആളുകള് പറഞ്ഞില്ലെങ്കില് -- പരദേശി തെരുവീഥിയില് രാപ്പാര്ക്കേണ്ടിവന്നിട്ടില്ല; വഴിപോക്കന്നു ഞാന് എന്റെ വാതില് തുറന്നുകൊടുത്തു--

32. But no stranger had to spend the night outside, for I opened my doors to the traveler

33. ഞാന് ആദാമിനെപ്പോലെ എന്റെ ലംഘനം മൂടി എന്റെ അകൃത്യം മാര്വ്വിടത്തു മറെച്ചുവെച്ചെങ്കില്,

33. if I have covered my transgressions as men do, by hiding iniquity in my heart,

34. മഹാപുരുഷാരത്തെ ശങ്കിക്കകൊണ്ടും വംശക്കാരുടെ നിന്ദ എന്നെ ഭ്രമിപ്പിക്കകൊണ്ടും ഞാന് വാതിലിന്നു പുറത്തിറങ്ങാതെ മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നു എങ്കില്--

34. because I was terrified of the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I remained silent and would not go outdoors

35. അയ്യോ, എന്റെ സങ്കടം കേള്ക്കുന്നവന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു!- ഇതാ, എന്റെ ഒപ്പു! സര്വ്വശക്തന് എനിക്കുത്തരം നലകുമാറാകട്ടെ. എന്റെ പ്രതിയോഗി എഴുതിയ അന്യായ രേഖ കിട്ടിയെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു!

35. 'If only I had someone to hear me! Here is my signature let the Almighty answer me! If only I had an indictment that my accuser had written.

36. അതു ഞാന് എന്റെ ചുമലില് വഹിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഒരു മകുടമായിട്ടു അതു അണിയുമായിരുന്നു.

36. Surely I would wear it proudly on my shoulder, I would bind it on me like a crown;

37. എന്റെ കാലടികളുടെ എണ്ണം ഞാന് അവനെ ബോധിപ്പിക്കും; ഒരു പ്രഭു എന്നപോലെ ഞാന് അവനോടു അടുക്കും.

37. I would give him an accounting of my steps; like a prince I would approach him.

38. എന്റെ നിലം എന്റെ നേരെ നിലവിളിക്കയോ അതിന്റെ ഉഴച്ചാലുകള് ഒന്നിച്ചു കരകയോ ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില്,

38. 'If my land cried out against me and all its furrows wept together,

39. വിലകൊടുക്കാതെ ഞാന് അതിന്റെ വിളവു തിന്നുകയോ അതിന്റെ ഉടമക്കാരുടെ പ്രാണന് പോകുവാന് സംഗതിയാക്കുകയോ ചെയ്തു എങ്കില്,

39. if I have eaten its produce without paying, or caused the death of its owners,

40. കോതമ്പിന്നു പകരം കാരമുള്ളും യവത്തിന്നു പകരം കളയും മുളെച്ചുവളരട്ടെ. (ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ വചനങ്ങള് അവസാനിച്ചു.)

40. then let thorns sprout up in place of wheat, and in place of barley, weeds!' The words of Job are ended. V. The Speeches of Elihu
