1. ഞാന് എന്റെ കണ്ണുമായി ഒരു നിയമം ചെയ്തു; പിന്നെ ഞാന് ഒരു കന്യകയെ നോക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

1. A covenant I made for mine eyes, And what -- do I attend to a virgin?

2. എന്നാല് മേലില്നിന്നു ദൈവം നലകുന്ന ഔഹരിയും ഉയരത്തില്നിന്നു സര്വ്വശക്തന് തരുന്ന അവകാശവും എന്തു?

2. And what [is] the portion of God from above? And the inheritance of the Mighty from the heights?

3. നീതികെട്ടവന്നു അപായവും ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കാര്ക്കും വിപത്തുമല്ലയോ?

3. Is not calamity to the perverse? And strangeness to workers of iniquity?

4. എന്റെ വഴികളെ അവന് കാണുന്നില്ലയോ? എന്റെ കാലടികളെയൊക്കെയും എണ്ണുന്നില്ലയോ?

4. Doth not He see my ways, And all my steps number?

5. ഞാന് കപടത്തില് നടന്നുവെങ്കില്, എന്റെ കാല് വഞ്ചനെക്കു ഔടിയെങ്കില് -

5. If I have walked with vanity, And my foot doth hasten to deceit,

6. ദൈവം എന്റെ പരമാര്ത്ഥത അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒത്ത ത്രാസില് എന്നെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ -

6. He doth weigh me in righteous balances, And God doth know my integrity.

7. എന്റെ കാലടി വഴിവിട്ടു മാറിയെങ്കില്, എന്റെ ഹൃദയം എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു പിന്തുടര്ന്നുവെങ്കില്, വല്ല കറയും എന്റെ കൈകൂ പറ്റിയെങ്കില്,

7. If my step doth turn aside from the way, And after mine eyes hath my heart gone, And to my hands cleaved hath blemish,

8. ഞാന് വിതെച്ചതു മറ്റൊരുത്തന് തിന്നട്ടെ; എന്റെ സന്തതിക്കു മൂലനാശം ഭവിക്കട്ടെ.

8. Let me sow -- and another eat, And my products let be rooted out.

9. എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഒരു സ്ത്രീയിങ്കല് ഭ്രമിച്ചുപോയെങ്കില്, കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് ഞാന് പതിയിരുന്നു എങ്കില്,

9. If my heart hath been enticed by woman, And by the opening of my neighbour I laid wait,

10. എന്റെ ഭാര്യ മറ്റൊരുത്തന്നു മാവു പൊടിക്കട്ടെ; അന്യര് അവളുടെ മേല് കുനിയട്ടെ.

10. Grind to another let my wife, And over her let others bend.

11. അതു മഹാപാതകമല്ലോ, ന്യായാധിപന്മാര് ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന കുറ്റമത്രേ;

11. For it [is] a wicked thing, and a judicial iniquity;

12. അതു നരകപര്യന്തം ദഹിപ്പിക്കുന്ന തീയാകുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ അനുഭവം ഒക്കെയും നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കും.

12. For a fire it [is], to destruction it consumeth, And among all mine increase doth take root,

13. എന്റെ ദാസനോ ദാസിയോ എന്നോടു വാദിച്ചിട്ടു ഞാന് അവരുടെ ന്യായം തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞെങ്കില്,

13. If I despise the cause of my man-servant, And of my handmaid, In their contending with me,

14. ദൈവം എഴുന്നേലക്കുമ്പോള് ഞാന് എന്തു ചെയ്യും? അവന് സന്ദര്ശിക്കുമ്പോള് ഞാന് എന്തുത്തരം പറയും?

14. Then what do I do when God ariseth? And when He doth inspect, What do I answer Him?

15. ഗര്ഭത്തില് എന്നെ ഉരുവാക്കിയവനല്ലയോ അവനെയും ഉരുവാക്കിയതു? ഉദരത്തില് ഞങ്ങളെ നിര്മ്മിച്ചതു ഒരുത്തനല്ലയോ?

15. Did not He that made me in the womb make him? Yea, prepare us in the womb doth One.

16. ദരിദ്രന്മാരുടെ ആഗ്രഹം ഞാന് മുടക്കിയെങ്കില്, വിധവയുടെ കണ്ണു ഞാന് ക്ഷീണിപ്പിച്ചെങ്കില്,

16. If I withhold from pleasure the poor, And the eyes of the widow do consume,

17. അനാഥന്നു അംശം കൊടുക്കാതെ ഞാന് തനിച്ചു എന്റെ ആഹാരം കഴിച്ചെങ്കില് -

17. And I do eat my morsel by myself, And the orphan hath not eat of it,

18. ബാല്യംമുതല് ഞാന് അപ്പന് എന്നപോലെ അവനെ വളര്ത്തുകയും ജനിച്ചതുമുതല് അവളെ പരിപാലിക്കയും ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ -

18. (But from my youth He grew up with me as [with] a father, And from the belly of my mother I am led.)

19. ഒരുത്തന് വസ്ത്രമില്ലാതെ നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നതോ ദരിദ്രന് പുതപ്പില്ലാതെ ഇരിക്കുന്നതോ ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടു

19. If I see [any] perishing without clothing, And there is no covering to the needy,

20. അവന്റെ അര എന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ലെങ്കില്, എന്റെ ആടുകളുടെ രോമംകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു കുളിര് മാറിയില്ലെങ്കില്,

20. If his loins have not blessed me, And from the fleece of my sheep He doth not warm himself,

21. പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് എനിക്കു സഹായം കണ്ടിട്ടു ഞാന് അനാഥന്റെ നേരെ കയ്യോങ്ങിയെങ്കില്,

21. If I have waved at the fatherless my hand, When I see in [him] the gate of my court,

22. എന്റെ ഭുജം തോള്പലകയില്നിന്നു വീഴട്ടെ; എന്റെ കയ്യുടെ ഏപ്പു വിട്ടുപോകട്ടെ.

22. My shoulder from its blade let fall, And mine arm from the bone be broken.

23. ദൈവം അയച്ച വിപത്തു എനിക്കു ഭയങ്കരമായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ഔന്നത്യംനിമിത്തം എനിക്കു ആവതില്ലാതെയായി.

23. For a dread unto me [is] calamity [from] God, And because of His excellency I am not able.

24. ഞാന് പൊന്നു എന്റെ ശരണമാക്കിയെങ്കില്, തങ്കത്തോടു നീ എന്റെ ആശ്രയം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവെങ്കില്,

24. If I have made gold my confidence, And to the pure gold have said, 'My trust,'

25. എന്റെ ധനം വളരെയായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടും എന്റെ കൈ അധികം സമ്പാദിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടും ഞാന് സന്തോഷിച്ചുവെങ്കില്,

25. If I rejoice because great [is] my wealth, And because abundance hath my hand found,

26. സൂര്യന് പ്രകാശിക്കുന്നതോ ചന്ദ്രന് ശോഭയോടെ ഗമിക്കുന്നതോ കണ്ടിട്ടു

26. If I see the light when it shineth, And the precious moon walking,

27. എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഗൂഢമായി വശീകരിക്കപ്പെടുകയും എന്റെ വായി എന്റെ കയ്യെ ചുംബിക്കയും ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില്,

27. And my heart is enticed in secret, And my hand doth kiss my mouth,

28. അതു ന്യായാധിപന്മാര് ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന കുറ്റം അത്രെ; അതിനാല് ഉയരത്തിലെ ദൈവത്തെ ഞാന് നിഷേധിച്ചു എന്നു വരുമല്ലോ.

28. It also [is] a judicial iniquity, For I had lied to God above.

29. എന്റെ വൈരിയുടെ നാശത്തിങ്കല് ഞാന് സന്തോഷിക്കയോ, അവന്റെ അനര്ത്ഥത്തിങ്കല് ഞാന് നിഗളിക്കയോ ചെയ്തു എങ്കില്--

29. If I rejoice at the ruin of my hater, And stirred up myself when evil found him,

30. അവന്റെ പ്രാണനാശം ഇച്ഛിച്ചു ഞാന് ശാപം ചൊല്ലി പാപം ചെയ്വാന് എന്റെ വായെ ഒരിക്കലും സമ്മതിച്ചിട്ടില്ല--

30. Yea, I have not suffered my mouth to sin, To ask with an oath his life.

31. അവന്റെ മേശെക്കല് മാംസം തിന്നു തൃപ്തി വരാത്തവര് ആര്

31. If not -- say ye, O men of my tent, 'O that we had of his flesh, we are not satisfied.'

32. എന്നിങ്ങനെ എന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിലെ ആളുകള് പറഞ്ഞില്ലെങ്കില് -- പരദേശി തെരുവീഥിയില് രാപ്പാര്ക്കേണ്ടിവന്നിട്ടില്ല; വഴിപോക്കന്നു ഞാന് എന്റെ വാതില് തുറന്നുകൊടുത്തു--

32. In the street doth not lodge a stranger, My doors to the traveller I open.

33. ഞാന് ആദാമിനെപ്പോലെ എന്റെ ലംഘനം മൂടി എന്റെ അകൃത്യം മാര്വ്വിടത്തു മറെച്ചുവെച്ചെങ്കില്,

33. If I have covered as Adam my transgressions, To hide in my bosom mine iniquity,

34. മഹാപുരുഷാരത്തെ ശങ്കിക്കകൊണ്ടും വംശക്കാരുടെ നിന്ദ എന്നെ ഭ്രമിപ്പിക്കകൊണ്ടും ഞാന് വാതിലിന്നു പുറത്തിറങ്ങാതെ മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നു എങ്കില്--

34. Because I fear a great multitude, And the contempt of families doth affright me, Then I am silent, I go not out of the opening.

35. അയ്യോ, എന്റെ സങ്കടം കേള്ക്കുന്നവന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു!- ഇതാ, എന്റെ ഒപ്പു! സര്വ്വശക്തന് എനിക്കുത്തരം നലകുമാറാകട്ടെ. എന്റെ പ്രതിയോഗി എഴുതിയ അന്യായ രേഖ കിട്ടിയെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു!

35. Who giveth to me a hearing? lo, my mark. The Mighty One doth answer me, And a bill hath mine adversary written.

36. അതു ഞാന് എന്റെ ചുമലില് വഹിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഒരു മകുടമായിട്ടു അതു അണിയുമായിരുന്നു.

36. If not -- on my shoulder I take it up, I bind it a crown on myself.

37. എന്റെ കാലടികളുടെ എണ്ണം ഞാന് അവനെ ബോധിപ്പിക്കും; ഒരു പ്രഭു എന്നപോലെ ഞാന് അവനോടു അടുക്കും.

37. The number of my steps I tell Him, As a leader I approach Him.

38. എന്റെ നിലം എന്റെ നേരെ നിലവിളിക്കയോ അതിന്റെ ഉഴച്ചാലുകള് ഒന്നിച്ചു കരകയോ ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില്,

38. If against me my land doth cry out, And together its furrows weep,

39. വിലകൊടുക്കാതെ ഞാന് അതിന്റെ വിളവു തിന്നുകയോ അതിന്റെ ഉടമക്കാരുടെ പ്രാണന് പോകുവാന് സംഗതിയാക്കുകയോ ചെയ്തു എങ്കില്,

39. If its strength I consumed without money, And the life of its possessors, I have caused to breathe out,

40. കോതമ്പിന്നു പകരം കാരമുള്ളും യവത്തിന്നു പകരം കളയും മുളെച്ചുവളരട്ടെ. (ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ വചനങ്ങള് അവസാനിച്ചു.)

40. Instead of wheat let a thorn go forth, And instead of barley a useless weed! The words of Job are finished.
