1. ഞാന് എന്റെ കണ്ണുമായി ഒരു നിയമം ചെയ്തു; പിന്നെ ഞാന് ഒരു കന്യകയെ നോക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

1. I have made a solemn promise never to look with lust at a woman.

2. എന്നാല് മേലില്നിന്നു ദൈവം നലകുന്ന ഔഹരിയും ഉയരത്തില്നിന്നു സര്വ്വശക്തന് തരുന്ന അവകാശവും എന്തു?

2. What does Almighty God do to us? How does he repay human deeds?

3. നീതികെട്ടവന്നു അപായവും ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കാര്ക്കും വിപത്തുമല്ലയോ?

3. He sends disaster and ruin to those who do wrong.

4. എന്റെ വഴികളെ അവന് കാണുന്നില്ലയോ? എന്റെ കാലടികളെയൊക്കെയും എണ്ണുന്നില്ലയോ?

4. God knows everything I do; he sees every step I take.

5. ഞാന് കപടത്തില് നടന്നുവെങ്കില്, എന്റെ കാല് വഞ്ചനെക്കു ഔടിയെങ്കില് -

5. I swear I have never acted wickedly and never tried to deceive others.

6. ദൈവം എന്റെ പരമാര്ത്ഥത അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒത്ത ത്രാസില് എന്നെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ -

6. Let God weigh me on honest scales, and he will see how innocent I am.

7. എന്റെ കാലടി വഴിവിട്ടു മാറിയെങ്കില്, എന്റെ ഹൃദയം എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു പിന്തുടര്ന്നുവെങ്കില്, വല്ല കറയും എന്റെ കൈകൂ പറ്റിയെങ്കില്,

7. If I have turned from the right path or let myself be attracted to evil, if my hands are stained with sin,

8. ഞാന് വിതെച്ചതു മറ്റൊരുത്തന് തിന്നട്ടെ; എന്റെ സന്തതിക്കു മൂലനാശം ഭവിക്കട്ടെ.

8. then let my crops be destroyed, or let others eat the food I grow.

9. എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഒരു സ്ത്രീയിങ്കല് ഭ്രമിച്ചുപോയെങ്കില്, കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് ഞാന് പതിയിരുന്നു എങ്കില്,

9. If I have been attracted to my neighbor's wife, and waited, hidden, outside her door,

10. എന്റെ ഭാര്യ മറ്റൊരുത്തന്നു മാവു പൊടിക്കട്ടെ; അന്യര് അവളുടെ മേല് കുനിയട്ടെ.

10. then let my wife cook another man's food and sleep in another man's bed.

11. അതു മഹാപാതകമല്ലോ, ന്യായാധിപന്മാര് ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന കുറ്റമത്രേ;

11. Such wickedness should be punished by death.

12. അതു നരകപര്യന്തം ദഹിപ്പിക്കുന്ന തീയാകുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ അനുഭവം ഒക്കെയും നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കും.

12. It would be like a destructive, hellish fire, consuming everything I have.

13. എന്റെ ദാസനോ ദാസിയോ എന്നോടു വാദിച്ചിട്ടു ഞാന് അവരുടെ ന്യായം തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞെങ്കില്,

13. When any of my servants complained against me, I would listen and treat them fairly.

14. ദൈവം എഴുന്നേലക്കുമ്പോള് ഞാന് എന്തു ചെയ്യും? അവന് സന്ദര്ശിക്കുമ്പോള് ഞാന് എന്തുത്തരം പറയും?

14. If I did not, how could I then face God? What could I say when God came to judge me?

15. ഗര്ഭത്തില് എന്നെ ഉരുവാക്കിയവനല്ലയോ അവനെയും ഉരുവാക്കിയതു? ഉദരത്തില് ഞങ്ങളെ നിര്മ്മിച്ചതു ഒരുത്തനല്ലയോ?

15. The same God who created me created my servants also.

16. ദരിദ്രന്മാരുടെ ആഗ്രഹം ഞാന് മുടക്കിയെങ്കില്, വിധവയുടെ കണ്ണു ഞാന് ക്ഷീണിപ്പിച്ചെങ്കില്,

16. I have never refused to help the poor; never have I let widows live in despair

17. അനാഥന്നു അംശം കൊടുക്കാതെ ഞാന് തനിച്ചു എന്റെ ആഹാരം കഴിച്ചെങ്കില് -

17. or let orphans go hungry while I ate.

18. ബാല്യംമുതല് ഞാന് അപ്പന് എന്നപോലെ അവനെ വളര്ത്തുകയും ജനിച്ചതുമുതല് അവളെ പരിപാലിക്കയും ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ -

18. All my life I have taken care of them.

19. ഒരുത്തന് വസ്ത്രമില്ലാതെ നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നതോ ദരിദ്രന് പുതപ്പില്ലാതെ ഇരിക്കുന്നതോ ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടു

19. When I found someone in need, too poor to buy clothes,

20. അവന്റെ അര എന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ലെങ്കില്, എന്റെ ആടുകളുടെ രോമംകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു കുളിര് മാറിയില്ലെങ്കില്,

20. I would give him clothing made of wool that had come from my own flock of sheep. Then he would praise me with all his heart.

21. പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് എനിക്കു സഹായം കണ്ടിട്ടു ഞാന് അനാഥന്റെ നേരെ കയ്യോങ്ങിയെങ്കില്,

21. If I have ever cheated an orphan, knowing I could win in court,

22. എന്റെ ഭുജം തോള്പലകയില്നിന്നു വീഴട്ടെ; എന്റെ കയ്യുടെ ഏപ്പു വിട്ടുപോകട്ടെ.

22. then may my arms be broken; may they be torn from my shoulders.

23. ദൈവം അയച്ച വിപത്തു എനിക്കു ഭയങ്കരമായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ഔന്നത്യംനിമിത്തം എനിക്കു ആവതില്ലാതെയായി.

23. Because I fear God's punishment, I could never do such a thing.

24. ഞാന് പൊന്നു എന്റെ ശരണമാക്കിയെങ്കില്, തങ്കത്തോടു നീ എന്റെ ആശ്രയം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവെങ്കില്,

24. I have never trusted in riches

25. എന്റെ ധനം വളരെയായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടും എന്റെ കൈ അധികം സമ്പാദിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടും ഞാന് സന്തോഷിച്ചുവെങ്കില്,

25. or taken pride in my wealth.

26. സൂര്യന് പ്രകാശിക്കുന്നതോ ചന്ദ്രന് ശോഭയോടെ ഗമിക്കുന്നതോ കണ്ടിട്ടു

26. I have never worshiped the sun in its brightness or the moon in all its beauty.

27. എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഗൂഢമായി വശീകരിക്കപ്പെടുകയും എന്റെ വായി എന്റെ കയ്യെ ചുംബിക്കയും ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില്,

27. I have not been led astray to honor them by kissing my hand in reverence to them.

28. അതു ന്യായാധിപന്മാര് ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന കുറ്റം അത്രെ; അതിനാല് ഉയരത്തിലെ ദൈവത്തെ ഞാന് നിഷേധിച്ചു എന്നു വരുമല്ലോ.

28. Such a sin should be punished by death; it denies Almighty God.

29. എന്റെ വൈരിയുടെ നാശത്തിങ്കല് ഞാന് സന്തോഷിക്കയോ, അവന്റെ അനര്ത്ഥത്തിങ്കല് ഞാന് നിഗളിക്കയോ ചെയ്തു എങ്കില്--

29. I have never been glad when my enemies suffered, or pleased when they met with disaster;

30. അവന്റെ പ്രാണനാശം ഇച്ഛിച്ചു ഞാന് ശാപം ചൊല്ലി പാപം ചെയ്വാന് എന്റെ വായെ ഒരിക്കലും സമ്മതിച്ചിട്ടില്ല--

30. I never sinned by praying for their death.

31. അവന്റെ മേശെക്കല് മാംസം തിന്നു തൃപ്തി വരാത്തവര് ആര്

31. All those who work for me know that I have always welcomed strangers.

32. എന്നിങ്ങനെ എന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിലെ ആളുകള് പറഞ്ഞില്ലെങ്കില് -- പരദേശി തെരുവീഥിയില് രാപ്പാര്ക്കേണ്ടിവന്നിട്ടില്ല; വഴിപോക്കന്നു ഞാന് എന്റെ വാതില് തുറന്നുകൊടുത്തു--

32. I invited travelers into my home and never let them sleep in the streets.

33. ഞാന് ആദാമിനെപ്പോലെ എന്റെ ലംഘനം മൂടി എന്റെ അകൃത്യം മാര്വ്വിടത്തു മറെച്ചുവെച്ചെങ്കില്,

33. Others try to hide their sins, but I have never concealed mine.

34. മഹാപുരുഷാരത്തെ ശങ്കിക്കകൊണ്ടും വംശക്കാരുടെ നിന്ദ എന്നെ ഭ്രമിപ്പിക്കകൊണ്ടും ഞാന് വാതിലിന്നു പുറത്തിറങ്ങാതെ മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നു എങ്കില്--

34. I have never feared what people would say; I have never kept quiet or stayed indoors because I feared their scorn.

35. അയ്യോ, എന്റെ സങ്കടം കേള്ക്കുന്നവന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു!- ഇതാ, എന്റെ ഒപ്പു! സര്വ്വശക്തന് എനിക്കുത്തരം നലകുമാറാകട്ടെ. എന്റെ പ്രതിയോഗി എഴുതിയ അന്യായ രേഖ കിട്ടിയെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു!

35. Will no one listen to what I am saying? I swear that every word is true. Let Almighty God answer me. If the charges my opponent brings against me were written down so that I could see them,

36. അതു ഞാന് എന്റെ ചുമലില് വഹിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഒരു മകുടമായിട്ടു അതു അണിയുമായിരുന്നു.

36. I would wear them proudly on my shoulder and place them on my head like a crown.

37. എന്റെ കാലടികളുടെ എണ്ണം ഞാന് അവനെ ബോധിപ്പിക്കും; ഒരു പ്രഭു എന്നപോലെ ഞാന് അവനോടു അടുക്കും.

37. I would tell God everything I have done, and hold my head high in his presence.

38. എന്റെ നിലം എന്റെ നേരെ നിലവിളിക്കയോ അതിന്റെ ഉഴച്ചാലുകള് ഒന്നിച്ചു കരകയോ ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില്,

38. If I have stolen the land I farm and taken it from its rightful owners---

39. വിലകൊടുക്കാതെ ഞാന് അതിന്റെ വിളവു തിന്നുകയോ അതിന്റെ ഉടമക്കാരുടെ പ്രാണന് പോകുവാന് സംഗതിയാക്കുകയോ ചെയ്തു എങ്കില്,

39. if I have eaten the food that grew there but let the farmers that grew it starve---

40. കോതമ്പിന്നു പകരം കാരമുള്ളും യവത്തിന്നു പകരം കളയും മുളെച്ചുവളരട്ടെ. (ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ വചനങ്ങള് അവസാനിച്ചു.)

40. then instead of wheat and barley, may weeds and thistles grow. The words of Job are ended.
