2. അയ്യോ പണ്ടത്തെ മാസങ്ങളിലെപ്പോലെ ദൈവം എന്നെ കാത്തുപോന്ന നാളുകളിലെപ്പോലെ ഞാന് ആയെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു.

2. 'I long for the years gone by when God took care of me,

3. അന്നു അവന്റെ ദീപം എന്റെ തലെക്കു മീതെ പ്രകാശിച്ചു; അവന്റെ വെളിച്ചത്താല് ഞാന് ഇരുട്ടില് കൂടി നടന്നു

3. when he lit up the way before me and I walked safely through the darkness.

4. എന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിന്നു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സഖ്യത ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും സര്വ്വശക്തന് എന്നോടുകൂടെ വസിക്കയും.

4. When I was in my prime, God's friendship was felt in my home.

5. എന്റെ മക്കള് എന്റെ ചുറ്റും ഇരിക്കയും ചെയ്ത എന്റെ ശുഭകാലത്തിലെപ്പോലെ ഞാന് ആയെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു.

5. The Almighty was still with me, and my children were around me.

6. അന്നു ഞാന് എന്റെ കാലുകളെ വെണ്ണകൊണ്ടു കഴുകി; പാറ എനിക്കു തൈലനദികളെ ഒഴുക്കിത്തന്നു.

6. My cows produced milk in abundance, and my groves poured out streams of olive oil.

7. ഞാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു പടിവാതില്ക്കല് ചെന്നു. വിശാലസ്ഥലത്തു എന്റെ ഇരിപ്പിടം വേക്കുമ്പോള്

7. 'Those were the days when I went to the city gate and took my place among the honored leaders.

8. യൌവനക്കാര് എന്നെ കണ്ടിട്ടു ഒളിക്കും; വൃദ്ധന്മാര് എഴുന്നേറ്റുനിലക്കും.

8. The young stepped aside when they saw me, and even the aged rose in respect at my coming.

9. പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് സംസാരം നിര്ത്തി, കൈകൊണ്ടു വായ്പൊത്തും.

9. The princes stood in silence and put their hands over their mouths.

10. ശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാരുടെ ശബ്ദം അടങ്ങും; അവരുടെ നാവു അണ്ണാക്കോടു പറ്റും.

10. The highest officials of the city stood quietly, holding their tongues in respect.

11. എന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ട ചെവി എന്നെ വാഴ്ത്തും; എന്നെ കണ്ട കണ്ണു എനിക്കു സാക്ഷ്യം നലകും.

11. 'All who heard me praised me. All who saw me spoke well of me.

12. നിലവിളിച്ച എളിയവനെയും അനാഥനെയും തുണയറ്റവനെയും ഞാന് വിടുവിച്ചു.

12. For I assisted the poor in their need and the orphans who required help.

13. നശിക്കുമാറായവന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹം എന്റെ മേല് വന്നു; വിധവയുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ ഞാന് സന്തോഷം കൊണ്ടു ആര്ക്കുംമാറാക്കി.

13. I helped those without hope, and they blessed me. And I caused the widows' hearts to sing for joy.

14. ഞാന് നീതിയെ ധരിച്ചു; അതു എന്റെ ഉടുപ്പായിരുന്നു; എന്റെ ന്യായം ഉത്തരീയവും തലപ്പാവും പോലെയായിരുന്നു.

14. Everything I did was honest. Righteousness covered me like a robe, and I wore justice like a turban.

15. ഞാന് കുരുടന്നു കണ്ണും മുടന്തന്നു കാലും ആയിരുന്നു.

15. I served as eyes for the blind and feet for the lame.

16. ദരിദ്രന്മാര്ക്കും ഞാന് അപ്പനായിരുന്നു; ഞാന് അറിയാത്തവന്റെ വ്യവഹാരം പരിശോധിച്ചു.

16. I was a father to the poor and assisted strangers who needed help.

17. നീതികെട്ടവന്റെ അണപ്പല്ലു ഞാന് തകര്ത്തു; അവന്റെ പല്ലിന് ഇടയില്നിന്നു ഇരയെ പറിച്ചെടുത്തു.

17. I broke the jaws of godless oppressors and plucked their victims from their teeth.

18. എന്റെ കൂട്ടില്വെച്ചു ഞാന് മരിക്കും; ഹോല്പക്ഷിയെപ്പോലെ ഞാന് ദീര്ഘായുസ്സോടെ ഇരിക്കും.

18. 'I thought, 'Surely I will die surrounded by my family after a long, good life.

19. എന്റെ വേര് വെള്ളത്തോളം പടര്ന്നുചെല്ലുന്നു; എന്റെ കൊമ്പിന്മേല് മഞ്ഞു രാപാര്ക്കുംന്നു.

19. For I am like a tree whose roots reach the water, whose branches are refreshed with the dew.

20. എന്റെ മഹത്വം എന്നില് പച്ചയായിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ വില്ലു എന്റെ കയ്യില് പുതുകുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞു.

20. New honors are constantly bestowed on me, and my strength is continually renewed.'

21. മനുഷ്യര് കാത്തിരുന്നു എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കും; എന്റെ ആലോചന കേള്പ്പാന് മിണ്ടാതിരിക്കും.

21. 'Everyone listened to my advice. They were silent as they waited for me to speak.

22. ഞാന് സംസാരിച്ചശേഷം അവര് മിണ്ടുകയില്ല; എന്റെ മൊഴി അവരുടെമേല് ഇറ്റിറ്റു വീഴും.

22. And after I spoke, they had nothing to add, for my counsel satisfied them.

23. മഴെക്കു എന്നപോലെ അവര് എനിക്കായി കാത്തിരിക്കും; പിന്മഴെക്കെന്നപോലെ അവര് വായ്പിളര്ക്കും.

23. They longed for me to speak as people long for rain. They drank my words like a refreshing spring rain.

24. അവര് നിരാശപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഞാന് അവരെ നോക്കി പുഞ്ചിരിയിടും; എന്റെ മുഖപ്രസാദം അവര് മങ്ങിക്കയുമില്ല.

24. When they were discouraged, I smiled at them. My look of approval was precious to them.

25. ഞാന് അവരുടെ വഴി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു തലവനായിട്ടു ഇരിക്കും; സൈന്യസഹിതനായ രാജാവിനെപ്പോലെയും ദുഃഖിതന്മാരെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും ഞാന് വസിക്കും;

25. Like a chief, I told them what to do. I lived like a king among his troops and comforted those who mourned.
